Florida Governor Crist, Florida Legislators Take National Lead on Iran, Sudan Divestiture
JERUSALEM — Governor Charlie Crist today announced his intent to encourage other United States governors to follow Florida’s lead in Iran and Sudan divestiture. Governor Crist announced the effort in a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. “Florida has taken this important step in support of Israel, and upon my return to Florida, I will sign Senate Bill 2142, the Protecting Florida’s Investments Act, and begin encouraging other states to do the same,” said Governor Crist. “I commend the Legislature for their leadership on this very important issue — especially Senators Ted Deutch and Nan Rich and Representatives Adam Hasner, Ari Porth and Elaine Schwartz.” Governor Crist announced that he will today send letters to the 49 other state governors asking them to join Florida in this effort and continue the discussion in July at the National Governors Association meeting in Traverse City, Michigan. “I thank Governor Crist for his leadership by encouraging his fellow governors to join Florida,” said Representative Hasner. “This action will have a significant impact on the funds that are currently propping up Iran’s terrorist regime that seeks the destruction of Israel and the United States.

I thought that Florida would have a break after Jeb Bush screwed the state into the ground. But it looks like our new Govenor, Charlie Christ is going to screw us even more.

I feel that the Govenor has no business in this Arena.

Actually Governors and Treasurers (Comptrollers) have a lot of business in this area.

According to the latest stats at www.sudandivestment.org...
17 states have chosen to divest any state funds from Sudan. This is seen as a way to pressure the government of a nation to change their policies. Sudan in particular has attracted a lot of attention (thankfully) due to the level of atrocities that have gone on there.

I personally think it was about time these state leaders used their clout (and cash) to tell Sudan "enough".
