Kansas City Man Accused of Tossing Ailing Wife From Balcony Over Medical Bills

This is just sad. I can not believe that people are this out of their mind to do things like this.

I wondered how long it would take for this to make it to ATS...

This has had a decent buzz on talk radio here in KC this morning.

I tend to think that because of the motive, the murder charge is appropriate. Had this been an act of mercy, I would say no charges are warranted. But mercy appears to not have been the primary intent. Money was.

I fear this will be used an argument for socialized medicine.

That is not the case, however. Socialism is a symptom, not a solution. A solution is tort reform and the elimination of ambulance chasing lawyers like a particularly well-groomed presidential candidate.

I dont see how anyone could argue for mercy kill. Mercy kills are usually painless and fearless. This on the otherhand, well im sure she was terrified when she was going over the edge, and i doubt it was painless.

A sad act of stupidity.

I sure hope this would not be used an argument for socialized medicine.

Sure its sad when medical bills pile up when you have no insurance.
That is still no reason to kill someone you love.
If it were me and my loved one was sick, I would get her all the medical help I could and worry about the money later. I would never chose to kill a loved one for any reason. The doctors would have to wait or I would just file bankrupt.

What else would you do with a sick spouse?:shk:

This is an act of evil and murder and he will pay for the rest of his life is there is justice.

Gotta agree with dgtempe - this guy murdered his wife, he did not put her out of her misery. From what I understand he initially claimed she jumped by herself. :shk: That just smacks of premeditation. I also understand she receives oil royalties. While the royalties may not be significant from year to year, I am curious as to what her actual interest is.

Had he truly wanted to end her suffering, he would have 1 - made it as painless as possible for her and 2 - admitted he done it.

You have misunderstood, Bleys.

According to local reports, Reimer first told police, "She didn't jump." He later told police he threw her over after kissing her. I have not seen it reported that he made any suggestion that this was euthanasia. Only that this was a financial decision.

If this was euthanasia, by her wish, I believe she should have had that right.

Wouldn't be the first time.

The report I read earlier today indicated that he had been making financial inquiries and that he had made the comment about her jumping.
If those initial reports were wrong - I am glad for it.

And I agree completely but I do think she should have put those wishes in writing. The whole Schiavo thing is a great example of why those decisions need to be documented.
