red+green - port+starboard lights

I was just checking on the recent posts and reading the ones of interest to me, and one had a link to these pics and a thought came into my head (so i savioured it as it doesn't happen often)
The thought is that i've seen a lot of UFO pics, vids and have read a lot of sighting reports, and i've noticed that a lot of the coloured pics and vids and the descriptions given in reports identify red and green lights, as these are international signals on aircraft and maritime craft to signify port and starboard does this mean that even clandestine goverment agencies have to follow such rules or, that the aliens have to adhere to the laws and regulations of the planets they visit.
