Romney Packs Iowa Straw Poll with Relatives

www.nytimes.com

AMES, Iowa, Aug. 10 — They have driven here from California, Ohio, Canada or Texas, while others have flown from Michigan, Utah or Florida. There are aunts, uncles, cousins, second cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

At last count, 96 members of the Romney clan, a veritable army, have arrived here over the last few days to help out at Saturday’s Republican straw poll, bolstering what is already a huge ground operation for the event that far outstrips the efforts of any other campaign.

He's got 96 relatives there to vote for him? I guess those Mormons really do breed!

This isn't any better than Ron Paul's stacked Internet and cell phone text polls.

I'm glad most of the front runners aren't even participating in this sham this year.

IMO it would be wrong to to view the Iowa straw poll and its results in a serious light. After all the poll is just a fund raising excise for the local element of the Republican party. The candidates who took part were looking to grab a headline by winning the poll and looking to build good will with local Republicans. Good will can be a pressures and rare comity in politics.
