Found this on
English Russia today, thought I'd share it. Seems like in the past year an
ancient Siberian fortress was discovered on an island near the Mongolian border west of Baikal.
Here is the official site for the expedition. Sorry, but its' only in russian. An artist's reconstruction
of the fort shows it to have a chinese style architecture rather than russian.
According to historians, the fort was one of 17 built on the orders of
Bayanchur Khan, sometime
during 751 AD. Bayanchur was a Mongol ruler, famed for his eradication of the wild peoples in the Sayan Mountains.
This is quite an intresting find from a place we in the west know so little about. The men building this thing had to be some fast and hardy men to
work on an island before winter came in.
