I saw a show on Discovery Science last night that was talking about Hubble being retired in 10 years, but they never really went into the why, or if they did, I missed it (I was cooking in the kitchen while I was watching it. Good food!
)

Anyone know why they would do this? It's been upgraded many times, why don't they keep upgrading it? Why send this thing to earth instead of collecting more and more pictures of the night sky?

Yeah, they mentioned it was being replaced, but there's a huge waiting list on getting access to Hubble now. Why not have 2 orbital telescopes? Could cover more sky that way, too, and have infra-red and visual spectrum telescopes!

Maybe the cost of operating two telescopes at the same time is too expensive.

Why have a outdated telescope up there when they already have a replacement!
