F2 Tornado Confirmed In Brooklyn

(CBS) NEW YORK What was thought to be a violently windy thunderstorm that plowed through Brooklyn Wednesday morning turned out to be a weather event of historical proportions.

The National Weather Service confirmed that the storm brought with it Brooklyn's first ever tornado since such weather events were recorded. Officials measured it to be an EF2 twister, characterized by winds of anywhere from 111 to 135 miles per hour.

Jeez what's a Tornado doing in Brooklyn? I mean, Weirder things have happened but it still is a bit worrisome isn't it?

I remember a few years back, this happened in Nashville. The social dogma around here stated that a tornado couldn't possibly make it over our foothills and hit downtown... Yeah, we asked for it.

April 16, 1998 - Nashville became the first major city in nearly 20 years to have an F2 or larger tornado make a direct hit in the downtown area.

It's still crazy to hear about a tornado in Brooklyn. I'm sure that was a quite an experience for those folks. The weather has seemed a bit odd lately. Maybe I'm just imagining things.

i was just reading about this on aol news aol news link really makes you think about what if something like the movie "day after tommorow" was to come true lol.....it makes me glad this whole "global warming" thing is just a bunch of hype and propoganda......

New York ranks around 35th (if I remember correctly) as far as tornado frequency. That being said, I can not recall a single case where it was remotely close to the city. Very interesting to say the least.

Sometimes cities get nailed.

Here in Pittsburgh a few yrs back we got hit in the top part of the city near the river with an F1/2.... Cant remember but it was intense.


But it is surprising to hear it happen in NYC.
