So, maybe this change will be the comming of the ubermensch, and people will start to see things through more earth-based eyes, as opposed to the religion influenced laws and social stigmas we have today.

just a thought is all.

You're talking about a materialistic mindset. I don't think society can or should become any more materialistic than it already currently is. I really don't understand your point. We already live in a world that is grossly materialistic... I hope for a return to the spiritual.

Spirituality is an illusion that hold man back as a race. And you say the world is grossly materialistic, and I suppose I could oblige on certain levels, however, it is more so spiritual. At least for now. The majority of people believe that god created everyone, the bibles right, I swallow before I chew, etc, etc..

Sorry I'm just not on board with regressive action back to a dark age.

And that is your OPINION. I can show you various ways as to how materialism has hurt the world. Can you show me how spirituality has? Leave religion out of the equation...Religion and spirituality are not the same thing, not even close really.

is earth-based materialistic? i dont think anyone should become more materialistic. what i, and what i think nietzche was say is that all we need is ourselves. we are alone, and by alone i mean without a god. and once we learn to deal with that, we will be able to advance. we are held back by a code of ethics that was written 2000 years ago. we are held back by people saying that the universe was created by a guy who went "POOF" and everything appeared, and as long as people believe that, we will move nowhere science-wise. i think you guys should read up on the book, beacuse you arent getting the idea. people need to understand that they ARE important enough to do things by themselves, without the security blanket we call "god". we ARE powerfull, we are smart, we are beautiful, and we need to embrace that. do not confuse spirituality with religion. there is so much about our universe that we dont know, and religion tries to explain it to us in a childish manner. the universe is way more complex than we understand, and religion puts a cap on it and says "NOPE. these amazing things dont happen, instead an old guy with a beard in the sky made you and he made everything." i, for one believe that the universe is awesome and is capable by itsself of making everything. and i would like to say most religious people are materialistic. they attempt to take something completely incomprehencable by us and confine it to a human body. they try and explain god in human means.

if you actually think about it, its more probable that there is no god than there is, because everything is possible. theres an infinite amount of universes. and every time theres a posibility of something happening, an infinite number of universes branch off of that one, each one containing a different outcome. and within those infinite amount of universes, where everything can happen, at least one of those universes has to have one of each choice that can be made . so because everything is possible, and because it is a posibility, it automatically makes it true and untrue in every possible set of circumstances. and that literally means everything. everything is possible. so if someone says "wow, this is really complex, what are the chances of this happening by accident?" pretty high, aparently.

wait when you say materialistic do you mean

1. preoccupation with or emphasis on material objects, comforts, and considerations, with a disinterest in or rejection of spiritual, intellectual, or cultural values.

or

2. the philosophical theory that regards matter and its motions as constituting the universe, and all phenomena, including those of mind, as due to material agencies.

from dictionary.com btw

I used spirituality with this definition in mind "sensitivity or attachment to religious values". From M-W.

to quote Ursula King: "spirituality is now understood anthropologically as an exploration into what is involved in becoming fully human"

That's exactly what I am referring to. Good discernment...

I don't know if it's of any relevance - but during those years I was on foot and living out of a backpack I experienced more than my share of interesting and enlightening people, places and experiences.

Now that I am back in the "real world" and surrounded by material possession outside of what I IMMEDIATELY need, I have noticed that those spiritual insights and chance meetings with persons of interest have declined - if not stopped almost altogether.

Still, every path is a unique and individual one - and just because it's not being widely reported or heard about doesn't mean the shifts in paradigm aren't happening as we speak - in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if those people who are already making the shift in conciousness are no longer troubling to "report back" to people lower on the proverbial spiritual totem pole.

Sad, but true - sometimes it takes too much time and effort to try and convince those whoa ren't ready for the jump in conciousness, and also - when one is experiencing so many new truths and revelations, there is very little desire to take those steps backwards in thought and lifestyle - even if it is for the greater good.

Not everyone is a Bodishattva - some prefer Nirvana.

Well, certainly.

People often ask me, "Well, can't you be spiritual and materialistic at the same time." My reply to them is always the same. Nope, never shall the two meet or intertwine. It's like trying to mix gasoline with water... or gravy with jelly. It doesn't mix too well, and if it did, the taste would be atrocious.

I certainly hope such a philosophical revolution never comes about. To me, it sounds like a recipe for people acting like animals.

Uber, humanity is already acting like animals...

I suppose that's my whole point.. This whole thread is based on the idea that we should move more towards materialism... All I can think is, "How are we to become any more materialistic than we already are."

We live in a society where if you even show the slightest inkling of being spiritual, not even religious, but spiritual, you get ostracized. They label you some sort of "wacko," for actually believing in something other than this empty space that we call matter.

Yeah, you read it right. I said, "This empty space that we call matter."

Maybe on the internet, but in reality the majority of the population believes in a god. A huge majority, atheists, in the view of the American people are wackos.

"Atheists are America’s least trusted group, according to a national survey conducted by University sociology researchers.
Based on a telephone survey of more than 2,000 households and in-depth interviews with more than 140 people, researchers found that Americans rate atheists below Muslims, recent immigrants, homosexuals and other groups as “sharing their vision of American society.” Americans are also least willing to let their children marry atheists."

So what if there are a couple stupid atheists who somehow are offended by such an act. The majority of America is spiritual, mainly Christian. And they all dislike atheists.

Well, maybe this is a moot point since I am not a mainstream Christian, but I don't dislike atheists.. I don't agree with atheists, nor their agenda, but they are free to think or believe anything they wish.

Ok Why do you people have to turn every thread into a religious debate, are you so empty that you need to get on the internet and cry?

Boohoo, wawa, cry me a river, then grow the hell up.

Now back on topic. 2012.
That is when wether the media tells you are not, the tipping point of extinction of higher organisms on earth will be fully reached.

Stop whining about your false gods, go look up some science and see what your ignorance has wrought.

For instance Altered Oceans
We can't clean up rivers, or lakes, what hope does the ocean have, when its filled with filth and now being change so dramatically that soon we won't be able to even approach its shores?

2012: No UberMensch, but a New Age for Microorganisms.

You are all doomed, because you were too busy arguing religion, ufo's, prophecy, hauntings, and every other trivial namsy pamsy thing, instead of doing something about the earth being swept out from under you.
