NATO has opened its doors to seven new members, but it still does not take gatecrashers lightly, as the Ukrainian President, Leonid Kuchma, found
out.
He insisted on attending the alliance's summit in Prague last week despite warnings that he was unwelcome because of suspicions he had smuggled
weapons to Iraq.
With the Ukraine sandwiched between the United Kingdom and the United States in alphabetical order, he was initially scheduled to sit next to
Britain's Prime Minister, Tony Blair, and the US President, George Bush.
