I've started this to see how would you think the future of gaming will be like 20 or 30 years from now. With all the cool technology we've seen in systems such as X-BOX 360 or the PS3. Do you expect the graphics to stand still and let gameplay in the forefront or would it continue to get better in graphics to the point of it being close to reality, I'd like to see your thoughts on this subject.

In 5 years I expect most genres save for the Sandbox, Strategy and RPG genres to have photo realistic graphics. After that happens you'll see more of an emphasis on how much photorealistic stuff they can cram onto the screen at any one time.

In 10 years all games will be Photorealistic quality and the first true forms of VR/ER(Virtual and Enhanced Reality) hit the consumer market and who knows where that will lead in terms of where to go from there.

50 Years consumer level neural interfaces will make total immersion a reality, think Holodeck except with Time Dilation capabilities as it's all in your head literally.

Some DirectX 10 shots

Thanks for your post sardion 2000, I was thinking the same way in terms of the photo realistic rendurings and all the cool lighting effects. I just wish I could live longer by the time those virtual reality chp embeded consoles hit stores. If there was a way to get a time machine and go to the future, so by the time I use it I won't be able to tell what's reality and end up like Arnold in "Total Recall", "Get Your A** TO MARS"

In ten years time all video games will be stopped and go underground. The governments of the world will come together and say "You lazy fat b4star4s get your bubble butts out in the sun and loose a few pounds"

The amount of people I see on the train, on the bus, sitting in mcdonalds, out shopping with their kids and even in school playing their NDS, PSP or whatever is sickening!

A few weeks ago we had a BBQ for my sons birthday, we went out to a BBQing place and got it on, water guns, balloon games, party games, music and even a bit of dancing. And then next to us was a group of teenagers about ten of them aged 15 to 18 (I'm guesing) They all had frigging nintendo wotsits. They were not talking, just playing games. Ok they did talk, but when I was their age I'd have been doing my best to get in some birds knickers!! I mean what happens with these kids "wow I just got passed level 25. Do ya wanna have sex with me to celebrate?

Now I know this is not every gamer! But it was a real eyeopener. I really do seem to see more and more handhelds everyday. Is gaming gonna become a social issue? Will people loose there ability to give others face time because of it? There are more and more on-line addiction centres opening in China. What the state of play in the States and the UK?

Back Soon.

Edit to remove stupid question.

I know what your talkin' about ChiKeyMonKey, since there's alote of those types who go to the park and play with their handhelds, who goes to the park to sit on some bench and alienate the people around them.If games get people more lazy overtime then there's a problem, untill that happens parents are going to support their habbit and supply them with more electronics .

Bang on my friend, seriously, people have such a taboo over gaming, didnt this happen when the the walkman hit the markets? people were so afraid it would alienate people, so much that they even added a second head jack so you could listen with a friend, people do all kinds of loning things, drawing, reading, playing video games, just live and let be.

NOW, on topic.

I think gaming in 5 years will pretty much be exactly the same as it is now, people just trying to push the envilope on graphics, but in 10 years, we will most likely be well into the even more next gen that it will be hyperphotorealistic, with practicaly endless posibilities as far as what can and cant be done, the next step would be like holograms and actual Vr.

It is different if you look at, if you read a book or draw , which I do, is it better in terms of knowledge and imagination. You might enjoy playin' a game but what good would it help you in, unless you actually work in programing a game or other aspects of it. Lets say if you'd want to become a professional baseball player do you play it in the virtual world or do you play it in real life.
