Wow, Steppenwolf were Canadians! And Loreena McKennitt! I recently found out about Joni Mitchell. And I knew about Gordon Lightfoot. Grew up on S,
JM, and GL. Played "Four Strong Winds" decades ago in an elementary school (talent?) show. Still singing/humming these tunes to this day.
to Canada and all its talented people
I can't decide if I actually like 54-40. I enjoy some of their songs, others I really don't enjoy and the rest are somewhere in the 'meh' range.
I fully expect the BC music police to come and arrest me for treason after saying that.
I like this one - Ocean Pearl.
Currently a one-hit wonder in Canada, but that could still change for him with his upcoming album (if it doesn't suck). I blame my last speeding
ticket on this song.
It's my East Coast bias I guess but these guys got overlooked alot. Breaking at the same time as BNL and The Hips 2nd or 3rd album didn't help.
Great band though. It could have been the record contract dispute that hurt there chance at the big time.
Oh my gawd! Thank you so much for that! I totally forgot about those guys. I didn't realize how many groups/singers I like are from Canada--April
Wine, Triumph, Aldo Nova, BTO, Guess Who, Steppenwolf--ehhhh!!
This is so freakig annoying, but it makes me laugh as soon as I hear the guy's voice!
Crash Test Dummies - Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm
This is kind of related...it's hilarious!! I love him...
Weird Al - Headline News
One of my very favorite singers. This video is awesome--Mulder & Scully!!
Good thread. I'd just like to mention that because of CRTC Canadian Content rules I've heard some of this music waaaaayyy too much over my lifetime
and if I hear some of it again I will slice open a vein. :w:
Some more recent stuff that gets overlooked even by Canadian Content Standards:
The Arcade Fire - Rebellion (lies)
The Art of Fresh - Get Free
One of the best Barenaked Ladies songs is Call And Answer
Jean Leloup - Je joue de la guitare (live) (with lyrics worthy of ATS - F the system yeah)
Jean Leloup - Johnny Go (very bad quality and a different version then I have but it's the only one on you tube) If you can find an mp3 of this tune
it's worth it.
The Arcade Fire from Montreal QC have played with the likes of Springsteen, collaborated with Bowie, opened for U2 (who are fans) and have been on
every show that can feature a band (like Letterman etc).
It's a shame their not more well known in Canada.
The Arcade Fire - Rebellion (Lies)
The Arcade Fire - Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)
To some people this band is an acquired taste (to me they're brilliant).
Here they are playing in an elevator (notice the guy ripping magazines for sound effect).
The Arcade Fire - Neon Bible (live in an elevator!)
