The day the world went black

I have an experience to relate from back when i was about 8 or 9 years old. I was at primary school walking to the assembly area with my friend. There were two girls about 5 feet in front of us. Suddenly everything went like pitch black for about 1 - 2 seconds. I thought it was nothing and i was just imagining it when i heard one of the girls in front of me say to her friend,

Girl: " Hey did you see that"
Other Girl: "What"
Girl: Everything just went black"
Other Girl: "Nope"

I asked my friend about it later and he said that he didn't see anything go dark either.
What do you guys make of this?

Scary. I genuinely have no explaination for this. I think that the least likely scenario is that the world went black. Collective hallucination perhaps, but that doesn't explain the 3rd girl's reaction (or lack thereof).

An old friend of mine had a similar experience years and years ago, but in her case the world went white. She was driving the kids in the car when everything went white for a split second. She managed to stop the car okay and one of her kids said "what happened mum" while the other one opened the door and threw up. Very strange and unexplainable.

no no this is real, wow i never thought anyone experinced this except me and my freind one day. We were driving around in the morning going to his house, and it was really sonny outside, sedenly out of no were it went pitch black for a couple of seconds, i was like wtf, and my freind was like hey did it just go black. I dunno it was weird.

we both experinced it...

That's pretty scary stuff. I'd imagine if you were on your own when this happened you'd think your brain was cutting out. It must be a comfort to have someone else experience it with you.

I actually had the same experience, and I'm curious as to when you guys experience this particular phenomena.

Let see I'm 18 now, be 19 later...and it happened in 8th grade, 5-6 years ago, I presume. Haha, geez I nearly forgot about this experience as well.

I personally remember looking outside the class room with my friends, then everything went pitch black for a second. The teacher seem stunned, and most of the girls were a little freaked out. I was in the phase of "what just happened," It was strange because it happen out of no where. It wasn't the lights because we had our windows open, and it couldn't just be me, because a lot of people experienced it. Even other kids and teacher outside my classroom.

It just felt like I blacked out for a second, I mean I was still conscious, but everything was pitched black, then normal again for a second later.

I remember years later after I heard about the "Hologram Universe" I just like to tell myself that maybe The Universe had to reboot itself. Or that it was a government testing their EMP device on humans. But, I was just joking around, I honestly don't know what occurred, but it happened to a lot of people.

I think I even made a theory on this long ago, if so I should have it written somewhere.

This is very interesting! I've never heard of this, let alone experienced it. Simultaneous, conscious black outs (or white outs). It's almost as if you were momentarily 'detatched' from the universe you're aware of.

The little girl who didn't perceive this phenomenon while others around her did, got me thinking. What then, is the commonality shared by those who experienced it?

The more I think about it, the possibilities for theories are endless. Cosmic 'reboot' of sorts, hijacking of the consciousness, if anyone here is versed in string theory, maybe this could be related in some way to entanglement.

I used to experience this a lot when I was a kid, but always assumed that it was the lights dimming or that I was blinking without really noticing... Quite strange, what I experienced was always very quick - a millisecond if that.

Has been a while since I had read up on string theory, but could you inform me of what you mean by entanglement?

I'm a little familar with string theory, and I looked up quantum entanglement a little bit. I'm not sure how deep quantum entanglement goes, but I all I know that I has nothing to do with blacking out. I really can't explain it really well, but I created quote summary:

Quantum entanglement is a quantum mechanical phenomenon in which the quantum states of two or more objects have to be described with reference to each other, even though the individual objects may be spatially separated. This leads to correlations between observable physical properties of the systems.

For example, it is possible to prepare two particles in a single quantum state such that when one is observed to be spin-up, the other one will always be observed to be spin-down and vice versa, this despite the fact that it is impossible to predict, according to quantum mechanics, which set of measurements will be observed. As a result, measurements performed on one system seem to be instantaneously influencing other systems entangled with it.

...Bell published a now-famous paper in which he argued that any theory of quantum physics must abandon either Einsteinian locality (ie. the requirement that no influence can travel faster than light), or else the objective reality of the properties of subatomic particles.

As for the holographic universe, I mean, I'm very indifferent about that theory, I really don't know what to make of it. I wouldn't rule it out, but I wouldn't relay on it much either.

I'm going with alien abduction on this one. Something may have happened in the 1-2 seconds, something that may have taken much longer. Have you ever had any other reasons to think you may have been abducted?

Could have been the testing of an em weapon, or more likely an ecclipse? Can't explain the white out phenomena though. I do believe odd things occaisionally happen with space and time. We may never understand it though.

Its weird as this has happened to me as well...Although everyone around me had noticed it happen. Could have just been a freak power outage for a second, or something quite different.

The best way I can describe it is as follows:

When blinking your eyes, close and shut them very slowly. That split second when one's eyes are closed..that is the sort of scenario I remember happening on several occasions. I can't give an exact date, but I remember this has happened multiple times.

Close your eyes for 1/4-1/2 a second and then open them..Rinse and repeat. That's what I remember.

Think about it like this...The age of the universe is like 12-20 billion years old. Now to us that is a huge amount of time but on another time scale that might be a immeasurably small amount of time. Kinda like how fruit flies die in a day and tortoises can live around 150+ years old. To the fruit fly 150 years is a unimmaginable amount of time.

What if we are all just living a fruit fly bleep existance?


This is what i think ghost and UFOs come from. Hell, maybe even bigfoot and nessy and all the other wierd creatures that have been spotted. Also people that disappear that have no reason to disappear and there is no evidence as to what happened to them or where they may have gone.

Maybe your black/white outs are a result of this. Maybe your consciousness is bleeping in and out.

This happens to me sometimes... everything just flashes white for a second. Almost like the lights flickring on and off... I always thought it was in my head or trick of the lighting. Never mentioned it to anyone cuz when weird stuff happens and you mention it people look and treat you diffrently.

How long ago did this happen?

like a year ago maybe two, me and my friend were driving around and we were getting onto the highway when there was this jolt of darkness, not like normal shadow darkness but dark, pitch black...it lasted for a second maybe less but we both experienced it and both talked about it.

Nope except i have a weird phobia of alien greys. I can't stand to look at them or photo's of them, they give me nightmares.

I wouldn't say I'm afraid of these guys but something about them makes them untrustworthy in my mind...along with reptilian creatures.
