Desert Island Disks was a British radio programme my parents used to listen to when I was a kid........................

from Wikipedia:
Desert Island Discs is a long-running BBC Radio 4 programme. It was first broadcast on January 29, 1942 and is said by the Guinness Book of Records to be the longest-running music programme in the history of radio. Guests are invited to imagine themselves as castaways on a desert island, and asked to choose the eight pieces of music they would take with them; discussion of their choices permits a review of their life. Aside from the music they select, they are also permitted to take one book, excluding the Bible or other religious work and the complete works of Shakespeare, which are deemed to be already present on the island (probably to force castaways to make more original and interesting choices). They also choose one luxury item which must be inanimate and of no survival value, though large supplies of champagne seem to be allowed.

A great opportunity to select some favorites from music collections gathered over the years. So to keep things simple I'm going to choose whole albums........hmmmmm.....what would I take to my desert island?.......

1. Queen: A Night at the Opera. (My first ever record).
2. David Bowie: Heroes. (Love the instrumental stuff on side two).
3. Marillion: Script for a Jesters Tear. (Sheer poetry).
4. Cocteau Twins: Treasure. (Spooky).
5. Genesis: Seconds Out. (Best Live Album EVER).
6. Gary Numan: Telekon. (At his best....yes, I was a "Numanoid"!)
7. Alan Parsons Project: Tales of Mystery and Imagination. (Genius songwriter/composer).
8. Joe Satriani: The Beautiful Guitar. (My "getting ready for a friday night" album)

And for my luxury item, it would have to be a nice telescope for all those wonderful stars. Twinkle, twinkle.....aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh. Sounds like a good situation to be in if you ask me. Anyone got a spare island?

So come on....what albums would you choose and why, and what would be your "luxury item"?

1. The War of the Worlds. (the Jeff Wayne musical narrated by Richard Burton)

2. Ozzy Osbourne, Diary of a Madman. (Ozzy and Randy)

3. Queen, Live Killers (all the great queen tracks)

4. Sex Pistols, Never mind the Bollocks (seminal)

5. Tank, Filth hounds of Hades (great 80's thrash, hard to find on youtube)

6. Jimi Hendrix, Electric Ladyland (a classic)

7. Venom, Black Reign (Gods of Black Metal)

8. Black Sabbath, Never Say Die (Gods)

9. Slayer, Reign in Blood (Kings of Thrash)

10. Blue Oyster Cult, Agents of Fortune (Brilliant muso's)

I could never get sick of listening to any of those albums.

And my luxury item would be a home brew kit. I'm not hanging around on some dinky little island listening to tunes without something to drink. :w:

Cheers mojo.

(edit, my bad i picked 10 instead of 8. Wtf's up with 8 everything should be in multiples of 10.)

In no particular order

1. Kiss - Alive!
2. Aerosmith - Toys In The Attic
3. Alice Cooper - The Alice Cooper Show
4. Brian Setzer - '68 Comeback Special, Ignition!
5. Bruce Dickinson - Accident of Birth
6. Van Halen - Van Halen
7. New York Dolls - New York Dolls
8. Johnny Winter - 3rd Degree

Oh man you know what? I would be a VERY unhappy boy with only 8

So my luxury Item would be a boat to get the hell off that crummy island!

We got some real "rockers" here...

Speaking of "home-brew", I've just sampled my latest and it's nnnnnice.:w:

I know 8 sounds like not enough, but if you WERE marooned on a desert island, wouldn't those 8 just sound great. Loud as you like with no neigbours to bug you (I don't have any here anyway)

Having a boat is cheating really because it would be classed as a "survival" item, nice try. Maybe a small rowing boat for fishing eh!
