The "directed energy" weapons system consists of a laser strapped to the nose of a 747, aiming a "megawatt-class chemical oxygen iodine laser beam" either down at the ground or at an airborne missile.

The ABL has been around for a few years, and is a relatively old project, in fact an older
less powerful version in the 80's was able to shoot a few missiles down itself, the current
ABL mounted on the Boeing YAL-1 is really just an outgrowth of decades old project that
has gotten more powerful as science and technology increases.


The system is only one part of a strategic missile shield though, since you'd need a
massive fleet on constant stand-by all across the country and most likely abroad as well
to successfully create a total aerial missile defence net, but it is still a good and strategic
part of it.


As for it being used to attack alien spacecraft, well if a species has the technology to get
all the way to Earth be that through relativistic spacecraft or some sort of FTL capable Starships,
I don't think a few puny megawatt laser is going to stop them.

I doubt it; in that thread what you have is a man with a golden pen pulling everyone's leg. Hell half of his Fifth Post was about his love life rather then the actual topic. Says a lot about his creditability and who knows if laser will or will not work on Alien craft? Answer no one because up until now, no alien battles have been reported other then back in 39 by Orson well's on the radio that is.

I am following it but certainly not believing it he is goofd with his golden pen that is dazzling the masses and a good attention drawer but it ends there. Far too much cloak and dagger, stuff also tonight he said he had to drive miles to post his posts again says a lot to his creditability.. Yesterday he claimed he posted from a library but is writing stuff off line in a hotel. See what I mean. Nothing of substance just like this theory of lasers working on aliens if they really exist that is.
