Hate, Love, Indifference...

Maybe someone here can help me with this. I've heard people say that the opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. If this is true, then what is the opposite of hate?

No, the opposite of love is hate. Indifference is having no emotional connection either way.

Think of it as yes, no and maybe. - bad analogy, but should help you see my point.

Well, then maybe it's just one of those things that people say to sound smart.

Actually indifference may be more harmful than hate.

You could be right. I've just heard it on more than one occasion by people that should be pretty intelligent. I suppose it's because there's such a fine line between love and hate. Very strong emotions and everything. Maybe it's just the result of a few people thinking too much.
