Found this interesting article about Isaac Newton, where he calculated the end times to be around 2060.

JERUSALEM — Three-century-old manuscripts by Isaac Newton calculating the exact date of the apocalypse, detailing the precise dimensions of the ancient temple in Jerusalem and interpreting passages of the Bible — exhibited this week for the first time — lay bare the little-known religious intensity of a man many consider history's greatest scientist.

n one manuscript from the early 1700s, Newton used the cryptic Book of Daniel to calculate the date for the apocalypse, reaching the conclusion that the world would end no earlier than 2060.

"It may end later, but I see no reason for its ending sooner," Newton wrote. However, he added, "This I mention not to assert when the time of the end shall be, but to put a stop to the rash conjectures of fanciful men who are frequently predicting the time of the end, and by doing so bring the sacred prophesies into discredit as often as their predictions fail."

It seems he was so annoyed with people making such rash claims, that he felt the need to make this prediction, he felt that there was some code tied up with the dimensions of the ancient temple in Jerusalem.

"He believed there was wisdom in the world that got lost. He thought it was coded, and that by studying things like the dimensions of the temple, he could decode it," she said.

Not many people have seen these documents, as they had been archived away for many years.

The documents, purchased by a Jewish scholar at a Sotheby's auction in London in 1936, have been kept in safes at Israel's national library in Jerusalem since 1969. Available for decades only to a small number of scholars, they have never before been shown to the public.

Einstein has seen these, and even added his own letter.

The archives of Hebrew University in Jerusalem include a 1940 letter from Albert Einstein to Abraham Shalom Yahuda, the collector who purchased the papers a year earlier.

Newton's religious writings, Einstein wrote, provide "a variety of sketches and ongoing changes that give us a most interesting look into the mental laboratory of this unique thinker."

I had never heard about this before now.
Its doesn't say how he got to the year 2060, or what will happen.
Is there any thing to the dimensions of this temple?

Here is the actual document.

This is fascinating. Newton was a very religious man, so may have just been trying to keep the doomsayers at bay, I'm not really sure.

It's funny that so many atheists hold science as their "religion" today, yet most of the best scientists who truly changed our understanding of the world and universe were devout believers.

PS: I heard about this yesterday and was going to post it, but I got sidetracked and forgot about it

Definitely good ATS material

In some ways you could say that Newton was the first modern conspiracy debunker. I would've thought that as Mason, as well as a man of religion, that he would have been ideally placed to apply his mathematical prowess to the religious prophecies popular at the time.

Its a fascinating document and a good find Denied, thanks for bringing it to the fore. I look forward to following the discussion.

except that's a grossly perverse and defaming way to put it...

yeah, most of them before darwin... and as time went on AFTER darwin more and more scientist became atheists. and now the percentage of scientists in the USA that's atheist is 70-80. in the national academy of science it's 90+

i mean, come on: watson, crick, the curies, and einstein were all atheists.
both sides have their scientists. and neither side can claim that their scientists were simply better.
