I do think Pythons were known (page 7), which is why dragons were sometimes refered to as "worms"

Different parts of the worlds have different dragons.
The Asian dragon and the European dragons are very different from each other, and the South American Dragon is very different from those two.I am not aware of African or Australian dragons.
Also there was a type of two legged dragon, sometimes called a wyvern, which was very birdlike, having a pair of wings, and hind leggs only, if my memeory serves me correctly.
I loved the Discovery channel show, and have a DVD of it.

One theory I've heard is that Western Dragons are the a holdover of our early ancestors three primary predators:

Snake-


Big Cat-


Bird of Prey-


Put all three of those together-


Asian dragons don't really fit this mold, but Asian dragons were not embodiments of evil. They were sages and teachers.
