hi fi speakers

hi i have a standard hi fi unit with 2 big normal speakers and then 3 other speakers offering 5.1 dolby digital sound. i have another old hi fi with speakers and how do i go about connecting these old speakers to my new system? the connection is just a wire coming from the speaker (the wire is open, the metal bit) and goes into the back of the hi fi by a clip. does anyone know IF i can use the speakers with the new system?

you might not be powerfull enough to surrport 7 speakers properly but if you have more than 5 seperate clips you should be fine
