John McCain's candidacy for president is over, whether he knows it or not. His tacking to the right (pandering to social conservatives) and gluing himself to George Bush and his losing Iraq surge strategy were the bullets that will take him down. He's a dead man walking.

This article only confirms my belief:

McCain's run for presidential candidacy in trouble, experts say
Sheldon Alberts, CanWest News Service

WASHINGTON - Of all the insults that get hurled at a U.S. presidential candidate during the course of a long campaign season, few sting worse than attacks motivated more by pity than anger.

Just ask John McCain.

The question is, how long will it take McCain to admit it to himself?

You are right, McCain's candidacy for President is over. But not for the reason you stated.

McCain's presidential run is over because of immigration. Remember he is running as a Republican, and being Pro-America is not hurting McCain. McCain is right on Iraq, and dead wrong on Immigration.

1st was the disaster of McCain/Feingold campaign finance reform, now the bigger disaster of McCain/Kennedy immigration reform. When will McCain learn that partnering with Democrats gets you nothing?

Yes, half theRepublican party hates him b/c of the Immigration bill.

His ill-fated war support is most definitely the albatross around his neck. Only 20 to 30 percent of the American public supports his/Bush's position. Hence the 2006 electoral thumping the Republicans got.

McCain is dead wrong about Iraq and he knows it. He's being every bit as calculating as Chillary is and has been on that. He just thinks Americans are that gullable not to understand that. We are not. And that is something they will both eventually learn - the hard way.

Partnering with BushCo. is abslutely suicide, my friend.

I agree with RRconservative.

His campaign is over because of immigration, McCain-Feingold, and because he looks just too old and tired. I don't think it has much to do with his position on the Iraq War.

He just scared the crap of me when he started singing the "Bomb Iran" song. Oh boy, that's all we need, someone who makes a joke out of war. Makes him sound nuts.

And, uh, RRConservative, wanting to keep U.S. troops in a conflict doesn't make you pro-America (implying that if you don't you're anti-America, I presume). I know this thread isn't about that, but it's something I really feel the need to address.

That is exactly correct.

In 2000, I chose to vote for G.W. over Crazy Train McCain b/c McCain seemed unecessarily angry.

Now, he just sounds insane; like he's totally sold his soul.

I will never support that.

yeah, I almost forgot about that. I agree with that too.

I think I can say with 99.9999999999999% certainty McCain will never president.

McCain's behavior and pronouncements have been downright creepy.

Its getting worse by the day, too.

His attack on Romney this past week was hilarious, in its pathetic nature. Romney's response made it even worse (for tem McCain).
