I have to say I am not totally sure of the validity of the results of this.

I mean yeah really old people tend to be married, but I've met several that have been
single for more than 40 years.

I honestly hope these results are wrong, since, well I'm not exactly good with relationships.

It's been claimed for ages that married life prolongs the life of men, but makes women depressed. The same research claims that single women and those who've never borne children, live longest of all. Bachelors are said to be least long-lived and their tendency to depression is apparently on a par with that of married women.

Yet one of my ancestors, a confirmed bachelor, lived to the age of 104. Don't know how happy or miserable his life was, however.

Natural selection at work. A single male not involved with women would tend to be culled, to the effect that if I can't find a mate, then my genetic material probably isnt the best for the pool. Just as such a single female who has never had a child would be more likely to live longer, so as to allow for more genetic diversity. Being "alone" is physically designed to be painful so as to give motivation for finding a mate.

Summary, being human sucks.

Err, No! Maybe mentally or emotionally, but not physically I think.

Anyway, everyone is individual and this research can't be too clever, there are so many factors to take into consideration.

I have been single for some years now, and have never been happier!

For an honest insight into "the single life", check out my thread about celibacy here. I think you'll find it interesting and there are all sorts of views and opinions.

Hi to all you single folks out there

Seeng as humans were made to be loving and social beings. I believe such things to be true.

I did not mean to make it sound like not having sex would cause a stomach-ache. Mental and emotional triggers lie in the brain, a physical organ.

I was just trying to point out that everyone is different.

Being single for some, can possibly improve general health through a simpler lifestyle with easier decision making, deeper self-awareness and a "body-clock" that "ticks" more to it's own beat.

So your comment about emotional and mental triggers in the brain is true, but has different advantages/disadvantages depending on your situation and temprament.

Like I said, everyone is different (thank goodness)

Wierd and wonderful world innit!

Well I'm a lone wolf forever
, and life is much funner. Hell, last time I heard, single people like me live longer because of less stress and all the other bs. I love my life the way it is, and wouldn't even have a relationship for a million dollars
but just cuz I'm single for life doesn't mean I ain't gonna be doing hos for life
single pimp for life, er single pimp soldier for life...yeah, that's better!

peace

Still, the UCLA researchers, who published the study in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, said the findings can't prove cause and effect.

www.livescience.com...

The article could have included data on what exactly killled the single men. Was it just bad health or was it other factors.

One might also ask if the people who were never married considered themselves happy or unhappy and used a personality profile to substantiate their self-assessment.

At 57, I'm in very good health, despite still being a little overweight, having abused alcohol for a very long time and smoked cigarettes for even longer. It might be noted that yesterday, I walked a nine-hole golf course carrying my clubs.

The bottom line is this, as far as I'm concerned. I don't care if married people live longer or not. Whatever life I have left, I want to live it in peace. For me, being single is the best way to make sure that happens.

Exactly! Who cares if married people live longer! We single people want to live our lives in peace and quiet.

And besides, living too long isn't a neccessarily good thing
hell, I wanna die before I get old. Young forever

Yeah, after my last 4 experiences, last one really hurt, I've stayed single. Little over 4 years and going strong. Though my friends and family think I'm crazy. When it comes to a serious relationship, the fire in my heart has been stomped out every time.

Its best not to get into a relationship in the first place, and avoid all the bad stuff. And since you're gonna be single, you got a world full of hot ass girls to bang
