Hi there - "long time listener, first time caller"...
Actually, 16mm cameras were in existence at the time and even 35mm cameras can be utilized hand-held (done it in my film school).
It's their bulkiness which along with a wide focal lens that might actually serve to steady an image.
It's hard to say just how quickly, assuming this is authentic, the camera operator had to get filming done. With little preparation, he'd have to
"eyeball" exposure and such and that might explain some of the less-than-stellar cinematography (helped by no small degree by the lo-res video
compression).
As for "style", again, this is somewhat of a strange argument. Take a look at unedited combat footage and you'll see it's all over the place.
If this is a fake, it's even better than the Alien Autopsy footage. That we can see people's faces is a rather good sign. Even the way the one
soldier is running at the beginning just seems "genuine".
Hopefully somebody can put some names to those faces!
