It's a more advanced MBT than the Leopard 2A6. Which apparently has amongst the best fire/command system. Just wondering whether anyone here has handled or seen the STRV in an exercise against other MBTs such as the M1 Abrams, Challenger 2 & Leopard 2A6? My Swedish friend of course is of the opinion that it's the best in the world lol.

STRV122 could very well be the most powerful MBT on earth. It has better bomblet protection than the standard L2A6 and features the new L2A6M mine protection.

/may contain ranting by a Finn
STRV-122 would be a powerful weapon indeed, but saddly in the current state of the Swedish army, the lack of supporting infantry will probably be a fatal blow to these tanks. This of course only if the very hypothetical scenario arises that Sweden goes to war.
They are investing to the latest gizmos, but they've scaled their army down so much that soon it will no longer a viable fighting force
Officially they're now concentrating their funds to crisis management and international operations...

How can the Swedish tank be more advance than the 2A6? I rarely see any major difference between the 2 tanks, except to say the Swedish tank has some modifications to meet its need.

scroll down to the section on the swedish version

[ext]The Stridsvagn 122 is the most sophisticated version of the Leopard 2 in current service. The front hull and glacis are fitted with additional armor plates, and the inside of the tank is completely surrounded by liner, to reduce the effects of being hit by projectiles, hollow charges or fragments.[/ext]

is just a part detailing the upgrades.
