Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama said Tuesday that the Bush administration has done nothing to defuse a "quiet riot" among blacks that threatens to erupt just as riots in Los Angeles did 15 years ago.

Democratic Hopeful Barack Obama Says Bush Administration Ignoring 'Quiet Riot' Among Blacks

I am tired of racial politics myself. you would think that no whites were in New Orleans to hear this guy tell it.

well, how many other politicians are catering to the needs of the black community in the senate? in the congressional black caucus... how many senators will you find? (answer: 1 more than you would have before barrack obama was elected)

face it, obama is the token black man in our senate, he should be expected to speak up for the black community when none of the other politicians do.

Is it just me or are blacks always involved in some sort of Quiet Riot?

It seems that no matter what is happening, there is always some amount of turmoil stirring within their communities. If it isnt one thing its another. Frankly I am sick and tired of hearing statements of discrimination from blacks.

It wouldnt be a stereotype if they didnt keep reinforcing it to the nation. All we hear is that we are persecuting them, but would it still be persecution if they werent trying to find a reason to gain attention?
Sorry about the rant. I assure you, I am not a racist.

Maybe if we made "Come on feel the noise" the theme song to their cause things would be better? No

dw, they have every right to feel persecuted. african americans at any age are far more likely to be pulled over for a "routine traffic stop" than a white american of the same age.
when did driving while black become an offense?

Do you consider recounting history to be 'playing the race card?'

That's all Obama has done.

I read his speech that your post refers to. He sounded more like a preacher than a pol. It was inspiring. What stood out to me was at the end of each position, he said we can do this, because our God is big enough.

Amen

When you discount that more than half of the deaths in New Orleans were whites when they make up less than 30 percent of the population then yes its playing the race card.
My father in law was one of the folks trapped in that hell hole outside the superdome guess what he is white and the government failed him just as much as it failed any black person in New Orleans. He is displaced, and hasnt even been able to get into New Orleans to get his belongings.

Greensburg Kansas was wiped off the map a month ago and its just ignored now because the town is mainly white so no one cares because there is no vote getting involved.

Its just politics of division as usual no matter how inspirational you think the speech is. Why invoke race at all The Democratic nominee whoever it is is gonna get 90%+ of the blcak vote anyway.

where'd you get that figure?

Did you not see the footage? It looked like an awful lot like some kind of American genocide. Due to the Bush admin's complete lack of a response.

There was no race card pulled. Obama just pointed out what happened and that we can move beyond it.

You sound bitter. Casting about for someone to thrash. Look no further than BushCo. There is no help b/c they don't care. They don't care about white americans or black americans. Only rich americans.

Wiki will give the casualty numbers

Yes I saw the footage poor and elderly whites were pretty much ignored.
No fan of BushCo here, Obama doesnt care anymore than BushCo does
My family isnt rich we are poor white and southern and ignored as much as poor and black folks are.
Looking for someone to trash yep I will probably trash all the politicians at somepoint before this election is over.

Sidenote During Katrina I emailed and complained to my Senator Harry Ried of Nevada, I been fighting with the IRS over 1200 usd every since. I file the EZ form I make less than 25,000 usd a year. So dems are no better than the Reps.

Everyone was ignored. You're making it a race issue.

Obama doesnt care anymore than BushCo does

I think you're wrong, there.

That ain't the Democrats fault. Its the system. Doesn't matter whose in charge.

Vital Statistics of All Bodies at St. Gabriel Morgue

Thats a better source

The Media and the Politicians made it a race issue.

Obama to me is as bad as any other politician ( we just have to disagree on this one)

I think I said Democrats are just as bad as the Republicans.

The Bush administration totally looked away then impeded the rescue of citizens (black, white and other) in the aftermath of Katrina.

They were absolutely derelict.

The reason it became a race issue (via the tv news) was b/c the vast majority of the footage coming out of NO was of fleeing blacks. It didn't focus that much on outer lying areas.

Barack Obama understands what's going on. And he's smart enough and hopeful (sounding) enuff to make changes where he can.

Personally, I hope Al Gore runs and invites Obama to be his running mate. They would be unbeatable. And things would change all the way around.. for the better.

Nagin and Blanco were as much at fault as Bush.

Al Gore I actually liked back in the early eighties when he was a Conservative Democrat.

Barack Obama fails the Gun Control and Abortion test with me.

Ron Paul is my choice even though he is unelectable I will probably go 3rd party.

I like Ron Paul, too. Believe me. But you and I both know he will not be elected.

Having said that, would you rather see Hillary Clinton get the nomination? How would you feel if she was the next president?

Barack Obama would be a much better alternative. As would Edwards.

As I said before though, I believe no one could match Al Gore for vision and experience. Obama as a running mate would be historic and would energize the masses.

As a senator he should not be 'catering' to the needs of anyone. He should be representing ALL the people of Illinois .. black, white, whatever.

No. He should be speaking up for those he has been elected to represent .. ALL of the people of Illinois.

As a presidential candidate, he should be expected to speak up for ALL of the people of America .. not just the black ones.

It's true. Katrinia Death Stats by race

The TV looked like it was an anti-black thing .. but the fact is that it's a 'chocolate city' to quote their (corrupt and incompetent) black mayor so of course most of the faces you'd see on the screen are going to be black.

Obama has no experience and no economic platform. He has no international experience and is just running on 'I'm half black so ya'll vote for me'.

Edwards? baaaah.

Hillary - as much as I cant' stand her - has the experience and ability to do the job. Bill Richardson has MORE and is the dems best bet ... but in the end, Hillary is better qualified then Obama and Edwards combined.

Lincoln had 0 experience, he was a junior senator. Heck he was a complete failure at everything he did until he became President. I'd say this gives Obama a huge boost.

Also, Washington had no experience to be President either.

And why should Obama represent everyone? The Bush Administration itself has said they only represent the people who support them. The 70% against them can go to hell. On the Daily Show Bolton said again that Bush only represents the people who support him. So the 70% that don't support Bush can go to hell, according to the Bush Administration.

So why should Obama represent the people who want him dead? WHy should he represent the KKK, Neo Nazis, WKK, GOP, CC, when the Bush Administration itself says they only represent the people who support them like the KKK, Neo Nazis, WKK, GOP, and CC.

Or is it a double standard like with everything else? When Clinton lies under oath he's impeached, when Scooter lies under oath it isn't a crime.(According to Fauz Noise, Rush "the pill" Limbaugh, Mann Coultergeist, Cheney) Obama has to represent everyone while Bush only has to represent the 27% who support him. A dem gets 90,000 in bribes need to be executed but Duke Cunningham gets 3.2million in bribes he is protected and the Attorny prosecuting him gets fired. When Gerry Studds has gay sex with an adult in 1983 the GOP wants him dead but when GOP Party Leader Bobby Stumbo rapes a 5 year old boy he's a "Good man of great character"

What we saw was the real deal. The inner city was exactly as we saw it. But what the camera didn't capture was all teh other people in the outter lying areas, up and down the coast.

ECK: Hillary Clinton get the nomination?

FF: She will.

Not if Al Gore runs.

Obama has no experience and no economic platform. He has no international experience and is just running on 'I'm half black so ya'll vote for me'.

No experience? He has relatively speaking, the same amount of experience as JFK when he was elected president. And
while running for state office (during the run up to the Iraq War), he was outspoken in his opposition to the Iraq War. While running for office, Obama showed more courage (on that poistion) than did Clinton, Edwards, Biden, et al. He wasn't prescient, he didn't have access, he had COMMON SENSE and some solid info.

He has experience enough.

FF: Hillary - as much as I cant' stand her - has the experience and ability to do the job.

So do I.
