I'll start with two of my faves.

Hal McRae ("Put that in your pipe and smoke it!")

Jim Mora ("Playoffs.............playoffs??????")

Kudos on the immortal Mora clip. It NEVER gets old.

When I think meltdown I think Oliver McCall versus Lennox Lewis where McCall just...well...stops fighting and has a good cry.

You know, that McCall meltdown was always very strange to me. It's almost as if a member of his family was threatened with death if he didn't lose the fight. It made absolutely no sense.

Peace

I do believe Tyson deserves some kind of Career Achievement Award when it comes to meltdowns.

I was thinking the same thing. Did any news ever come out as to why he was so distraught? It does make you think there was some pressure to lose.

Yeah, the Jim Mora one has always been one of my favorites. "Playoff? Playoffs? You..you want to talk about playoffs?"

For me, it's a toss up between Mora's "Playoffs" and "Diddly-poo", and Mr. Iverson's "Practice"

I mean, we talkin' 'bout practice!

Well, you sound like he had a chance to win. More like he had mental problems.

Someone needs to brush up on their history. McCall beat Lennox Lewis by TKO in two rounds in 1994. The second fight was fixed without a doubt.

You know, after watching the video of Mike Tyson, i have come to the conclusion that he's even sicker than I thought he was!!
I didn't think that was possible because I have always viewed him as being a very sick bastard.

Well, I know my history enough to know that Lennox Lewis often slacked on his training and did indeed lose fights to inferior opponents, only to defeat them convincingly in the rematch. He would never have lost to McCall a second time, who was after all a flash in the pan.

That's a great one. What a game. What a collapse.

Just to play devil's advocate...I'm not sure I'd chalk up either of Lewis's losses to poor training. Rahman caught him BAD...and McCall just plain whipped his ass for his first loss.

He would never have lost to McCall a second time...

I got to go with the Doctor on this one...somebody sure thought Lewis wasn't a sure thing because the fix was in.

Yeah Es, obviously I agree. That second fight was just way too strange. I said earlier that there might have been a death threat against McCall, but it might have been as simple as someone having compromising info about McCall and they threatened to let it out if he didn't lose. He just gave up the fight and obviously his trainers were not aware of the situation. It's not like it hasn't happened before in the world of boxing.

The thing about Lennox Lewis was that not only was he a good boxer, but he was extremely well spoken as far as boxers go. I think he was the golden boy of the heavyweight division and they weren't going to let McCall destroy that for them.

The Haseem Rahman punch was one of the greatest in boxing history, albeit lucky.

Also, Evander Holyfield clearly beat Lewis years later but lost by an iffy decision.

Peace

Did you watch the same fight as everyone else? Here is the full fight. I don't see anyone "whipping anyone's ass" and in fact the referee stops the fight after a lucky punch by McCall. Sure Lennox is wobbly but I've seen worse being allowed to continue. No way that fight should have been stopped. Lucky win for McCall.

Fight Result for Lewis/Holyfield 1.
From: www.tremains.com...
Fight Results for
HOLYFIELD vs LEWIS I

It's a DRAW!!
115-115, 113-116, 115-113

FINAL FIGHT STATISTICS
Holyfield Lewis
385 Total Punches 613
130 Punches Conn. 348
34% Percent Conn. 57%
171 Jabs Thrown 364
52 Jabs Conn. 187
30% Percent Conn. 51%
214 Power Punches 249
78 P. Punches Conn. 161
36% Percent Conn. 65%
0 Knockdowns 0

Clearly a fight that Lewis should have won, but it was scored a draw.

Holyfield/Lewis 2 was a unanimous decision for Lewis, though much closer than the first fight.

In their first meeting, on March 13, Lewis landed 348 punches to 134 for Holyfield and the fight was scored a draw. In last night's rematch, Lewis outlanded Holyfield by a much narrower margin, 195-137, but was awarded a unanimous decision by a comfortable margin. While Lewis definitely deserved a win in the first fight, it would have been difficult to argue if last night's fight had been scored a draw.

So I don't know which fight you're talking about where Holyfield clearly won but was not rewarded. It is my understanding that they only fought twice.

Okay, I'll admit that the term "ass whipping" was applied pretty liberally to this fight...but you can't deny this:

1)
Lewis didn't hurt McCall at all. He landed one "lucky" punch that had anything behind it with about 3 seconds left in the first.

2)
McCall had landed that same punch that knocked Lewis out...probably two or three times in the first without his legs under him and without Lewis lunging into it (the two factors that resulted in the knockout)...I certainly wouldn't call it "lucky."

3)
You need to re-watch Lewis weaving his way up from the canvas. He was DONE. That ref did the right thing.

Bottom line...about three minutes and twenty seconds into the fight Lewis was on his back with his pupils doing the humpty dance.

I'll downgrade my description from an "ass-whipping" to a "bell-ringing", but that's as far as I go.

I got to agree that Denny Green's blowup is the best by far, but there are more from NFL Head Coaches that need to be seen.

Here they are.
