How about gadgets you'd like to have?

I covet one of these:

and these look really cool too.

And how did I survive without my garlic peeler?

Hey MM...I have an apple peeler sort of like your Rotatoe...It's a huge help when I'm putting up applesauce
I don't do that so much anymore, but when my kids were little they loved chunky applesauce so I never milled it, I always mashed it with a potatoe masher....I do have an antique food mill though.

I would cook much more often than I do if I had that way to peel potatoes. I love mashed potatoes, I just don't have the patience to peel em.

What did you think of those gloves, though, Jen? They look mighty interesting. Maybe next month, after I pay my car insurance, if there's anything left over, I will order a pair just for fun.

Do you really suppose they (the gloves) work? If they do..it might makes an excellent skin exfoliator for the shower

Oops...this is about kitchen gadgets...not shower gadgets! Back on track Jen...We better not talk about shower gadgets...that might be against the T&C

The garlic peeler, I always use a big knife and smack it on the cutting board like Rachel Ray does

yeah ya can, especially those crappy Vslice things they sell on guthy renker infomercials at 3am on a weeknight.

"it slices, it dices, it peels, it chops, our special patent V shape blade blah blah, just put your potato in this little holder, insert the special patent chip blade into your vslice, and see, perfect chips everytime."

change the blade and you can do blah blah blah blah, but thats not all, theres still more.. (more crap to go with it that is)

i HATE junky stuff like that, and egg slicers and things that are so simple to do but ppl think they need a handy gadget to do it quicker but they forget about how its a P.I.A. to clean up (and therefore takes longer than an ordinary knife)

aint nothin worse than opening a cupboard or drawer and 80% of it is filled with junky nick nacks and prevent you finding the one tool you do want lol

foreman griller is a great gadget though, but mine has the non stick coating coming off and i dont like teflon flavoured steaks :shk:

My favorites:

my adjustable manual slicer. It's very small, great for cucumbers, potatoes, carrots. Got it at a flea market 25 years ago for a quarter.

microwave
electric knife sharpener
my very very old knife
kitchen scissors
those "new" knit oven mitts
pizza stone and paddle
teak salad bowl
non-stick griddle
GE profile gas stove/oven

those "tater" gloves look a little fishy to me.

when I first saw the commercial I was like "why didn't I think of that?"
But upon closer inspection, I have a feeling those demo spuds are cooked.

Best kitchen gadget ever!

Your wife is a gadget?
Is she the plug in type or do you have to recharge her?

My favor gadget, which broke a year ago and I've yet to find somewhere that has one,
a is a type of strainer. I don't know the actual name. It's flat with a handle and you can place
it right along the edge of different sized pots/pans. It much quicker than using a traditional
strainer and clean up is a breeze!

Yeah, you people and all your fancy, smancy, new age, new fangled, kitchen gadgets.

You've all forgotten the best, most efficient, longest lasting, most versatile kitchen helper ever.

These things will clean virtually any surface that any food or liquid may spill, and its completely automated. You don't have to lift a finger.

It will reduce your sweeping and moping time by an exponetial factor.

By default it is programmed to sense any food or liquid that has fallen, or even food that may fall to the floor or other surfaces.

Food scraps are no longer a problem. They will be gone in micro-seconds.

Sadly, I can tell you haven't figured it out yet, so here is a picture.

You guys know I was just kidding around right?

Didn't mean to kill the thread.

Cool thread.

At the present, it's a microwave and a kitchen scale for weighing your food. (I weigh all my protein sources unless you can just count them, like jumbo pre-cooked shrimps).

I've even got a microwave in my study for heating up coffee in my Aladdin thermo-cup.

Another staple is the coffee maker. Some people have expensive espresso makers; that might be fun to have.

My needs are simple (I make all my own meals, unless I'm visiting my friend, a gourmet cook.).
