Whats up with all these Chinese recalls?

How come there are so many recalls on various products that are imported from china? For instance, dog food , contact lens solution, toothpaste, childrens toys, and fish. Mabey the us government should take a look at all this crappy stuff coming into the country before it is sold at marked up prices to give them more tax money.
