Hm. I've never heard this theory before. I always liked the idea that it was somewhere off of India...

But the truth is that because of global shifts, many ancient cities are now under water. And Atlantis is a sweet blanket myth to cover the general story that has replayed numerous times throughout history.

IMO, anyway.

I think of a place that IF existed, has crumbled to dust and will never be found.

Or.. it is buried under many feet of sand in some barren desert.

I think that if the globe were to be painted red with all of the hypothesized locations where Atlantis may have existed, you would have one large, round, red ball.

The Minoans.

Egypt. Plato's literary execution of The Republic. And global myths. Oh, and the stuff uncovered off India after the tsunami.

Cool theory. After the great indonesian tsunami and the discovery of the lion statues off India, I believe there are many cultures lost under the sea. Plato even said the island chains were once joined together. Check out the Critias passage below.

Many great deluges have taken place during the nine thousand years,...
but the earth has fallen away all round and sunk out of sight. The consequence is, that in comparison of what then was, there are remaining only the bones of the wasted body, as they may be called, as in the case of small islands, all the richer and softer parts of the soil having fallen away, and the mere skeleton of the land being left.

I believe the islands of Greece, Indonesia and the Caribbean were once joined together. I don't mean these three were once connected together. You know what I mean.

I’m heading from the states to the Malaysia coast this weekend. I’ll ask the locals if they’ve heard about any sunken legends around those parts and report back.

Yeah, I think Atlantis was the Minoan civilization as well. It makes the most sense and the Minoans definitely had a lot of influence in the area before they were suddenly destroyed.

I was recently researching for a thread similar to this one. I can't quite tie all things together properly -- and truth be told, that's the antithesis of the scientific process anyway -- to form a hypothesis and then try to create data that supports it. I know better.

Short answer: I think it's likely that IF Atlantis existed, that remenants might be found under the ice in Antarctica. It's not an original theory, there have been many before me that thought so. I thought that I had a new twist on the idea though. We'll see.
