I am worried about this move, pro russian vs pro western seems like a time bomb to me, Russia flexing its might over other states. Will there be a orange revolution MK2?
I hope that the powers that be will find a solution to this.

Its another proxy war of Eastern Europe.

Western Europe has basically fallen out with Russia, regarding trade and gas. The British are not happy with Russian military watching our exercises in Scotland and the murder of an ex-KGB agent in London.

Welcome to the second Cold War Ladies and Gentlemen.

Thats what I am thinking right now, Russia has real power over nations like the Uukrain. I suppose maybe that they can slowly bring back other states by blackmail. I am worried though. Is the west going to sit back on this or try to keep the status quo.

Yep I heard that on the radio, I ad know idear that we were talking about 40000 troops! This could get very messy. I have got to ask would NATO get involved or Russia just send the tanks in if a shooting match started. Many thanks

Regardless of what happens, even a worse case scenario of civil conflict, Russia does NOT have the right to send in troops no matter what. That in itself could be seen as a declaration of war against Ukraine, and as an invasion.....sort of like the US did in Iraq.

Then again if civil conflict took off, I dont think Russia would accept NATO troops, even peace-keepers being deployed into Ukraine, not that Russia has any control or jurisdiction over Ukraine.

This issue will really bring out the true feelings between Russia and the West, it will be hard to hide behind false niceties with this one I beleive.

Communism screwed Ukraine for the most of last century and just when it seems to be getting better and back on its feet again Russian influence and coerciveness on the Ukrainian ministers will see it falling towards catastrophe.

I hope Im wrong, but this could go either way.

To quote Tina Turner, "What's Russia got to do with it?"

Looks like an internal power struggle to me. Could lead to civil unrest though.

Intrepid, you don't think Russia would try to exploit a situation? We would. And Russia has in the past.

I think that Russia would be more behind the scenes than any overt military action. Do they want one leader over another? Funnel funds to that guy. That's what "we would" do too.

Nice not to say "Soviet" though.
