Regional database - Introduction
I tought i might be useful to gather a sort of a database about survival conditions and important issues that affect survival during a situation X in the region. Do not post your personal plans. If there is allready a post about same region (for example a state) quote that post and add your on input, so that all information of a certain region is in single post.

Example and format:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Region:
South-East Finland

Landscape:
Mainly forrest, with small farms dotting the area. Lake Saimaa and several other lakes are a dominant feature. Cities and towns are connected with paved roads, tight network of secondary dirt roads.

Climate:
Very cold winters with temperatures dropping to below -30C and warm summers with temperature rising up to +30C. Medium rainfall, average snow depth in winter 50-100cm

Population:
Sparcely populated area, with only few major towns. Main ethnisity is Finnish with large Russian minority. Most people speak at least Finnish, Swedish and English. Population is largely friendly and open, unless you are coming from Russia.

Local authorities:
Local Police Departments can be trusted, no resent cases of corruption or abuse of power. Border Rangers operate near the Russian border, they have police authority in the border region. Military has several bases that train conscripts. Expect that major portion of the male population will be called to serve in the army incase of major disaster. There is a high probability that at least military command structure will survive any disasters and maintains a civil situation.

Water and food supply:
Tap water is drinkable. Most small farms have independent wells that are clean. Lake water is drinkable, but quick boiling is adviced. Game animals includes at least: Moose, Rabbits, Deer, Ducks and plenty of fish in the lakes. During fall there are lots of edible berries and mushrooms.

Possible natural dangers:
One poisonius snake - Viper. Predators include bears and wolves. No poisonous spiders etc. No known hazardously polluted areas.

Possible human dangers:
Close possibility of the Sant Petersburg causes a possibility of mass infux of refugees that may and most likely will be heavily armed.

Georgia

Climate: usually around 90+ in the summer barely drops below 40 or 50 in the winter.

landscape: north has mountains with rivers and many trails. south has swamps complete with aligators. central is relatively hilly with scattered lakes. eastern side ocean front.

animals: many misquitos but nothing that could cause much harm.

recomendation: bring water especially in the summer. should be short walk to any civilization. south is most hazardous with either farms or swamps and the least dense populated section of the state.

id like to add

gangs inhabit all of the suburbs central atlanta. do no mess with them because they will shoot you and never think about it. police are good although will pay attention to crimes involving white people more than african americans. farmers are normally friendly although the occasional person will get mad if you sneak a peice of his corn. no animals to watch out for unless you are in the mountains, you may find bears, but in the cities the worst is the occasional wolf or opossum.

hopes that helps with whatever

The Ozarks is a good area to consider in the lower 48 states. The winters are not very bad, and summers are hot , but not intolerable.

The growing season is fairly long and has a history of subsistence farming.

Land prices are much higher than they were just a few years ago, but still within reach when compared to other areas.

You would be far enough inland to be as safe as anywhere from nukes, with no major bases nearby.

There are few major cities to deal with.

I would suggest an area along and either side of the MO./Ark. border, east of the populated northwest corner and west of the Mississippi River by some 50 miles.

Addition to local authorities:
There is a law in place that grants freedom of passage through private lands if you move on foot or skis. Only No-go areas are yards and fields. It's allso legal to pick up wild berries and mushrooms from privately owned lands. Fishing with simple line and hook is legal in all lakes that are not natural reserves.

There are allso very similar laws in place in Sweden and Norway.
