Soil kicked up by Spirit is rich with silica, which would have required water to produce. Rover\'s chemical analysis measured a composition of about 90 percent pure silica.
On Earth silica commonly occurs as the mineral; quartz and is a main component of window glass.

Exciting but not shocking, I have long thought that Mars billions.... of years ago was somewhat an inhabitable planet. The evidence is slowly starting to come through.
