AUSTIN – Texans who have concealed-weapon permits should be allowed to carry their guns anywhere in the state, including churches, courthouses and bars, Gov. Rick Perry said Monday.

Currently, state law prohibits concealed weapons in certain places, including private property where signs are posted disallowing the guns.

Personally, I am all for C&C (conceal and carry) permits for law abiding citizens, especially today. Not addressing directly churches, courthouses and the like....but bars.

Smoking is being outlawed through-out the state in bars…municipalities have been the first to lead….good or bad. But, what sort of bi-polar mentality is going through the head of the legislature?

As a holder of a liquor license in the state of Texas (as primary but not actively involved) as well as a C&C permit I can already carry on premises with a liquor license, but have always chosen to not do so...outside of my own interests from time to time. There is a point where I draw the line as well as look at certain aspects of current law. But as a license holder, I already have long passed given over some basic rights to the state, as an example: Right to deny search and seizure (but that is a different thread).....

To continue...I can not legally ‘smoke’ tobacco publicly as of sptemebr 1, 2007, (in my own place even if I choose)…yet persons can ‘smoke’ someone in situations that provide a “less than stellar” thought process…self induced insanity or worse. Oddly, if one is pulled over after/when drinking, the licenses (liquor included) can and probably will be pulled.

I wrestled with this proposed right…as a memebr of several organizations...but I have yet to see any real positive future outcome if made law. My personal preference (which is expected in the great State of Texas) is to leave you gun in the car before coming inside a liquor serving establishment and do not drink and drive...especially with your weapon(s). These issues could become thick...as well as the liabilities. This appears to be another governemntal attempt toward further control or at least another "in" inside one of my businesses.

I personally have many issues (pro, pro...and con)...but I am very interested in hearing outside arguments (if any) and thoughts.

Thanks

i believe you should be able to carry wherever you want EXCEPT bars. im all for the right to bare arms however they do turn situations that would most likely not be deadly in to a blood bath.

guns and alcohol definitely dont mix and you shouldn't be able to carry in a situation where your thought process is hindered. think of all the fights in bars about stupid # and think about if even half those hot heads were carrying guns... its scary.

hard enough to keep a drunk person from getting behind the wheel, why give an inebriated person the power to take a life on purpose? i dont care if you have em, but if your drinking, check it at the door or leave it in the car.

I'm sorry, but that's just not right.

People's right to ther eproperty is more important than the right to carry guns with you.

Should people be allowed to have guns, yes, should they be able to go anywhere,
even places that are private property that explicitly say not to, no they should not be able to.
