It’s not clear whether this object is part of the Space Shuttle or a huge UFO. Can anyone identify which part of the Shuttle it is? Unfortunately, there are no details. Glad if someone can throw some light on this.

Steve Tobias writes, “Note: I do not know if the large object (grayish color) in window at positions 10 to 12 o'clock of the portal view area is a part of the NASA vehicle or a UFO main vessel.”

Note the other small ‘dots’ too. But these could just be ice particles, space debris, or dust on the lens. But if that huge dish like object IS a UFO, then all I can say is, Wow!!

Cheers!

Hmm, well that isn't a very good picture to make any kind of conclusions from. I have no idea what that grey part is. It doesn't really resemble anything. And if it is a "flying disc" craft, then I guess it is a coincidence that the camera happened to catch it while in the right position to appear "flat" as if we were looking directly on top of it in the photo...

Since there is no real "up" or "down" in space, then the chances the disc craft would be positioned exactly like that below the shuttle would probably be pretty slim. But then again I just read it again and it says it's just out of a window, so maybe it was a regular side viewing window or something? I dunno... the logical explanation is that it's part of the shuttle or equipment, but if it isn't then I have no idea...

Why no information on what shuttle mission this is from? Would be nice to go and find the original photo.

I'm not convinced that this photograph was taken from the Space Shuttle. I have been looking at pictures of the Shuttle from various angles, and it doesn't seem to have any windows that have that much of a circular shape. Those marks could actually be dirt on a ground based window, and we could be looking up at a cloudy sky !

I agree! It doesnt look like a photograph taken from space at all.

What's with the focus? The window edge is also strange, very very jaggy. But if it had been a really close zoom the semi-circle wouldnt be so large.

It looks wrong either way.

Check this out. A pic of space tourist Dennis Tito in the Shuttle. Notice the circular window? Looks the same as the one through which the 'UFO' pic was taken!

Cheers!

could be a partial view of a satellite that is floating by or one that they're getting ready to work on.

That is a snapshot from a video feed, no?

A photograph would be ALOT prettier than this. Example:

Dennis Tito never rode in a space shuttle (in fact no paying space tourist has yet ridden in a shuttle). He rode the Russian Soyuz TM-32 to the space station, hung out in the space station for several days, then came back to Earth in Soyuz-31. The photo of the Tito at the round window was most likely take aboard the Soyuz, rather than the space station because he is wearing a full space suit. I don't know of any normal reason why an occupant of the space station would need to wear a space suit.

EDIT: Back to the photo in the OP...
This photo is so close up that there is absolutly no contextual clues as to what this is. It could very easily be a part of the space station, photographed from the space station (ISS) itself, or photographed from a docked soyuz spacecraft. If the round grey thing is a UFO, then what is the squre tubular object at around the one o'clock position? I'm thinking the tube is part of the spacecraft or ISS, just like the round grey object is.
It's premature and baseless to allude to this being anything but a man-made object until someone can prove that this isn't just part of the Space Staion.
