Sharpton Denies His Own Sladerous Remarks

www.comcast.net

The Rev. Al Sharpton, who recently urged that radio host Don Imus be fired for making a racially insensitive remark, said in a debate that "those of us who believe in God" will defeat Republican Mitt Romney for the White House. But Sharpton denied he was questioning the Mormon's own belief in God.

"As for the one Mormon running for office, those who really believe in God will defeat him anyways, so don't worry about that; that's a temporary situation," Sharpton said Monday during a debate with Hitchens at the New York Public Library's Beaux-Arts headquarters.

"It is terribly disheartening and disappointing to hear Reverend Sharpton offer such appalling comments about a fellow American's faith," said Romney spokesman Kevin Madden. "America is a nation of many faiths and common values, and bigotry toward anyone because of their beliefs is unacceptable."

What more need be said? If for instance, Imus had said the exact same type of remark against Obama, Sharpton would be in front of every camera he could find.

I can't believe he's denying this! It's so well documented... It's just another double standard that I'm seeing more and more of from Sharpton.

My approval of this guy is quickly waning. I'm losing any respect I ever had for him. I used to let these little barbs he threw at people go but now that I'm seeing both sides of his "purpose", I have less patience with his double standard way of doing things.

It's OK if he insults someone for something as personal and precious as their religious beliefs (and then denies it), but let someone insult a black person and all hell breaks loose, jobs are lost, lives are ruined.

I know there's an argument out there that race is a special case that should be respected and not used as a point of attack, but I don't buy that. If you're going to disallow offensive comments based on race, then you need to be consistent and disallow offensive statements based on gender, religion, sexual orientation, etc. Race is not a special case.

Sharpton is a walking double standard. And he lies. Yuck.

A lot of fundamentalist Christians do not believe that Mormons are 'really' Christians. (I am NOT one of them- I'm not fundamentalist and I'm not a Christian who thinks Mormons aren't also Christian)

They cite that Mormons do not believe in the divinity of Christ, etc etc.
THEY say that since Mormons dont' know who Christ really is .. then they
can't really follow him and thus are not Christians.

However, this is the first time I have heard an anti-mormon bigot say that
the Mormons don't really believe in God.

Mormons don't see God as a Trinity. Neither do the Muslims or Jews.

As far as I'm concerned, someone who tries to follow Christ to the best of their abilities and the best of their understanding .. then that person is a Christ-ian.

And, unlike Sharpton's statement, it's rather obvious that the Mormons DO believe in God - just not a Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) God.

Edited to add - Sharpton compalined against IMUS and basically got the guy fired. But upon looking at IMUS's contract it specifically states that he will get paid to be CONTROVERSIAL and also Imus had a 'one bite' clause - which means he was supposed to get one warning from the network before he got fired. (I'm still glad IMUS is off the air).

Imus was doing what he got paid for.
So what's Sharpton's excuse?

Well well...

Think about it... in the wake of the Imus case this nation had Jesse "Hymie-Town" Jackson and Al "If it ain't my God, it's not God" Sharpton telling the citizens of this country how to be good, moral people.

When, oh when, will the African American community rid themselves of these two hypocrites who've made themselves wealthy beyond belief by pretending to care about "their people".

I mean really... one Reverend has a child out of wedlock and the other was involved in ruining the life of an innocent man by inventing a rape story.

Should we expect better from Al? I'm not shocked at all by his bigoted comments because I personally think he's a lowlife.

These two are headline grabbers with no interest in helping anyone but themselves. Remember that the next to you see Al rifling through the headlines looking for a case to march about.

Better leaders would be a fantastic idea. Who's going to stand up in the African American community to tell these two liars to stop embarassing them?

Sharpton is just and media hungry blowfish, who uses African American Rights as a reason to promote his own agenda of shameless self promotion. I'm surpised we don't see LLC behind his name.

mr sharpton has alway struck me as a very unimportant guy. i remember
years ago when he was making a big stink about some little girl getting raped turns out the whole thing was a hoax. he has always seemed like a bigot to me in the way he agted and remarked about white people.
when did he become so righteous?

I am probably going to be bashed for this, but frankly I don't believe this news story fits ATS. What's the point of having PTS when noone is going to use it.

Well is two angles to the story one that fits ATS braking news after the well publicized issue of Imus.

And the second angle is politics.

I think that it fits both.
