to the people that know helicopters

i was sitting on my roof last night and a helicopter buzzed my house. but i could not tell what type it was, but i know its not the AH-64 or the Camanche. there was no noise just lots of wind. heres the best part i saw the pilot he/she was 100% human and he/she gave me the finger.

it was obviously Blue Thunder, on Whisper mode!

if the rotors of the helicopter are turning, there will be sound. you cant stop it generating a sound, especially since the advancing blade tips, during forward flight will be experiencing localised shock waves from breaking the sound barrier, and the retreating blades will be stallingat certain places. this noise will be intensified due to a phenomenon of helicopter theory of flight, call the "Hookes joint effect". thats not to mention, the sound of a jet engine is impossible to mask! or airliners would all be silent!

Have you seen any markings? That's, I think, the basic question.

Maybe it was a UH-60 Blackhawk?


Or an OH-58 Kiowa?

It could have been an AH-2 "Little Bird". They have some very serious quieting technology. These are "special operations" birds. You saw them in "Blackhawk Down" with the Delta guys sitting on benches fastened to the sides providing supportive fires. They were called LOH's or Loaches in Vietnam when they were used in general service.
