It does

know what George Washington thought was the worst form of Government?

Democracy

know why?

because 51 % of the people could tell the other 49% what to do

know what America is supposed to be?
what Washington and the founding Fathers created as a form of government?

not a Democracy

A Constitutional Republic

Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.

Winston Churchill. Yes democracy can be seen as quite terrible, but, its better than tyranny, and until an acceptable alternative is thought up I think Churchill will have the last word on things.

the worst part of democracy isn't the fact that 50.1% of the population can force their will on 49.9% of the population... it's that stupid people exist and make up a bigger percentage of the population than smart people.

democracy is in a sense idiot rule.

Democracy is the most evil and oppressive form of government. Thank God that the United States isn't one.

Thank goodness we are not a true Democracy, if that were the case ALGORE would have been President during one of our most trying times in our history. But instead we had a real leader, that has been protecting our behinds ever since!

A Representative Republic, and an Electoral College are great protecters from Democracy!

wow, so this is where the 29% of the country that think that moron is still doing a good job. lemme guess, you also think that iraq had a link to 9/11...

you're the reason why democracy is bad, people that can't hold a crap leader accountable for a crap job.

how do you know gore wouldn't have done a better job?

Do you even know a thing about what you're screaming about? Quit your babbling and listen; you might learn something.

In a pure democracy, we don't even have elected leaders. But you knew that, didn't you?

Learn to read.

well, which path of pure democracy?
the lottery version in which we select at random every certain time period our officials (because there are certain officials, like diplomats that every nation needs) or the path in which we have everyone vote on every decision?

i was referring to the more athenian style of a lottery, there are certain people i really wouldn't want to have chosen at random to represent this country or make decisions. and that style is more logical seeing as most people don't really care enough to vote at the major elections anyway.

Democracy is one of the two greatest forms of government, the other being consensus,
and honestly both are the only acceptable forms of government.

True a pure democracy is not exactly fair, but that is why Constitutions exist, to prevent certain things.

Personally I advocate Constitutional Democracy, with personal freedoms that do not
directly and non-consensually infringe on others protected, term limits and as much direct
democracy as possible, that is the people voting for all Senators, Representatives,
Supreme Court Justices and the president, not the elected electing the elected basically.

Blatant thread hijack

So what's better than democracy? And why?

Anybody want to tackle those questions? Would you like to go first, tom_roberts?

A Republic. Because in a (pure) democracy 50.1% of the people can vote to do anything at all. That doesn't work. Additionally, it just isn't practical to hold a vote for every little thing (by "isn't practical" I mean "impossible"). The average joe doesn't know anything about international affairs, the government, the economy, or anything else, and is therefore unqualified to make such important decisions, anyway.

Democracy. Inefficient, dangerous, and rewards mobs.

A Republic is good because you elect able leaders to make decisions. The mob does not have absolute power, and the rights of the individual are considered supreme.

This is government by referendum, a rather extreme (you call it pure) form of democracy. I agree, it doesn't work. None but a fool would imagine it could.

A Republic is good because you elect able leaders...

Who elects them? The 50.1 percent?

That's democracy.

A republic, in the classic sense of the term, doesn't hold elections. See Plato for more information.

For large scale things like what % of GDP to spend on space exploration and scientific research,an internet polling system would suffice.

Will this become reality?Heh,yeah, when the last politician has the earth shovelled onto his cold dead corpse.

They're fed by cro-magnon parasites who give out the cash based on what investment will yield the largest profit.
