i must be seeing something different,

Bush is being the Commander-in-Chief, as he & VP Cheney define CinC
the public opinion, the Generals' advice are only nuisence issues,

Look up UNITARY EXECUTIVE
look up what the neocon cabal is doing to Re-Define the Presidents role
via the 'Commander In Chief Clause'.

all this debate is a distraction as some group is resculpting the govt.

We're not a democracy. Things aren't that simple. You don't just pick up and leave whenever public support drops below 50.1%.

Oh, well, I guess every single teacher I had from 1st grade thru college is wrong, because I was taught in school that the U.S. is a democratic republic. We elect our representatives = democracy.
However, I do have to agree with Billybob, we have become a dictatorship and our constitution means nothing to our representatives, because they aren't defending it. And many Americans have no idea what is in our Constitution.
We are not what we once were.

No, a democracy means the absolute will of the majority. It is fundamentally different in concept, and entirely different in practice.

Which is exactly what this country was founded on. I believe that Bush and his Patriot Acts are currently in the process of moving things toward a dictatorship.

You don't get everything you want. A dictatorship would be a lot easier... So long as I'm the dictator. George W. Bush

Well, it's worth stating that most people don't really know how our government works.

Now, electing representatives doesn't make a country a democracy, it makes it a representative government. You are correct in saying that we may be a "democratic republic," but we are NOT a "representative democracy." We are democratic, but we are not a democracy. Law is above the absolute will of the majority, specifically those protecting the sovereignty of the individual.

That's incorrect. In fact, the majority is a very dangerous thing. In a democracy, that's all that matters - the will of the majority is held above all else. The founding fathers of the United States were terrified of such a government.

Instead, as I stated in my previous post, the ultimate power lies within the rights of the individual. Law is held above the will of the mob to protect these rights. In a democracy, 50.1% of the people in the United States could vote to take your land if they want it, and then they would get it. It is important to realize that this is NOT what the United States is based on, for we are a REPUBLIC of sovereign individuals, not a democracy of the mob's will. No freedoms or rights exist in a democracy - the best example of a one is the lynching by an angry, lawless mob.

i stand by my statements. i feel they are totally on topic.

i hope he comes back as an anal wart is his next life.

I agree on the first quote , but as far as being a wart he SHOULD be the person afflicted with them or some other incurable, debilitating disease where there is just enough medical knowledge to keep you aware and miserable but not enough to cure. Oh and make it last about 5 or so years so you fully realize the error of your ways and are able to muster the strength to put the scattergun in your mouth and end it like a MAN.

I do love happy endings.
