How about some bands that were featured on Metal Blade Records Metal Massacre compilation albums. Until the last album they were all unsigned bands. For example the first album had a cut from the unsigned Metallica (with Dave Mustaine).

Metal Massacre (1982)

Black N Blue - Chains around heaven

I'm shocked I found the next one on Youtube!!!

Bitch - Live for the Whip

Metallica - Hit the lights live 1983 (With Dave)

Here's a band that was on the next one
Metal Massacre II

Overkill - Hello From The Gutter

Cug, that just has to be Dee Snider doesnt it? Or his long lost twin.

How about Blue Cheer, some say the very first 'Metal' band, slightly before Sabbath. Whether you think they were or not they still set the scene for a lot of the bands that followed.

Summertime Blues

Gypsy Ball

Thanks Hellmutt, as usual your taste is impeccable.

[RANT]I'm a classic NWOBHM punter, ahhh those were the days if you liked Heavy Metal, you were a Headbanger. Now you have to be into one genre Doom, Death, Black, Hardcore, Thrash, Nu, Power etc etc, what a load of crap. Headbangers have all been sucked in by the record company's and categorised since the ninety's began imo. Anyway's here's to the good days when Headbangers liked Metal. Fullstop.[/RANT]

ATOMKRAFT - SELL IT FAST

Warfare - Military Shadow

Avenger - Revenge Attack!

Grim Reaper - See you in hell

It's still rock and roll to me
