Tzipi Livni's speech
Israel's foreign minister has called on Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to resign in the wake of a report critical of his handling of last year's war in Lebanon.
Tzipi Livni said she would not resign or try to oust Mr Olmert, but would stand as a candidate to replace him.
"I am in a personally uncomfortable position, but I will not shirk my responsibility and will fix all the mistakes," Reuters news agency quoted Mr Olmert as saying.
Tens of thousands of Israelis have rallied in Tel Aviv, calling for Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to quit over his handling of last year's Lebanon war.
"All this government needs to go - including Prime Minister Ehud Olmert," one protester, Shevah Salner, told the BBC in the square.
