Former CIA Director George Tenet’s defense of his agency’s performance in the lead-up to the war in Iraq will echo from now through Election Day next year, but other disclosures in his new book are equally sobering and, in laying out the scope of al-Qaida’s ambitions, sometimes far more frightening.

The book, “At the Center of the Storm,” which is being published Monday, reveals that al-Qaida or groups affiliated with it have undertaken several other operations aimed at equaling or even surpassing the carnage of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The operations, which either were thwarted by authorities or were canceled for one reason or another, included efforts to assassinate Vice President Al Gore with anti-tank missiles during a trip to Saudi Arabia, release cyanide in the New York subway system and procure weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons, from Pakistani nuclear scientists.

In one especially chilling assertion, Tenet reveals that several intelligence sources were indicating in fall 2001 that a small nuclear weapon may have been smuggled into the United States.

This article is very scary. It talks of details of a cyanide gas attack in the NY subway. It was set and ready to go however right before it was to be executed it says:

“Chillingly, word came back from Ayman al-Zawahiri in early 2003 to cancel the operation and recall the operatives who were already staged in New York ‘because we have something better in mind.’ ”

Something better? This is truly scary.

So I must ask. Is this hype, a scare tactic? Or is this the real deal? Read the article. If true, it is beyond chilling.

Nuke Iran. This is the plan of Dick Cheney, no matters who's behind the next terrorist attack.

But I don't believe Al-Ciada were ready to strike unless the CIA approved it. Sure there are real terrorists groups out there, but when it's big terrorists acts like 9/11, London or the next one, be it biological or nuclear, a government is behind it.

A nuclear bomb in the hands of terrorist is a very horrorifing idea. Thank goodness they didn't pull this off.

Vitchilo, Are you taking a Leave of absence from Reality? A Nuclear Bomb! You can't seriously think our own government would dare go that far. A terrorist attack with a Nuke would trigger a world wide state of chaos, the likes of which noone has ever seen. The result would be the biggest political desater in history for the people in charge. It's called Political Suicide for the people in charge. IF the CIA did that, the US wouldn't have a CIA and All of DC would be torn to shread by Americans.
