I will bite my tongue and refrain from sharing my full feelings concerning such sites [ facebook , myspace , frenids reunited etc ]
BUT : it is now standard practice in the UK recruitment market for interviewers to download the applicants profile from
friend reunited
and check firt the CV of applicants , and then use the info as basis for interview questions
a mate of mine is a sub dept head @ a major UK blue chip company - and so sits on the interview board for vacancies to his dept
and he tells me that
" major errors of fact " - if the CV info does not match the online profile - it goes in the bin , it may be " only "a typo - but according to
him - " we work to 0.005mm tolerances where a mistake can cost £5k / error , we need people who are precise - not sloppy "
" alarming behaviour " - even such innocent behaviour as an " extreme sport " can tip the balance when it gets to the second interview - for the
simple reason that if two candidates are otherwise equally quallified - the " safe option " will be prefered - as they believe that a stamp
collector is less likley to have sick leave for ` self inlicted injury ` than say a mountaineer
" honesty and integrity " - any admission of drug taking , criminality , even marital infidelity can dependant on the seriousness lead to summary
rejection .
there you have it - the straight hearsay from a freiund of the horse
