Apparently, 390000 out of 52m in England and Wales did. were you one of them?
This was played down to some extent by the media, but I think it should have provoked more of a debate. What do YOU think?

He didn't say the whole UK, just that the 390000 in the UK did. If England and Wales are part of the UK, then technically, 390000 people in the UK did claim themselves as Jedi.

Are we still waiting on the results from the rest?

Does this mean you Scots and Irish had no such opportunity to "poke fun or borax" at the government?
I still am surprised that the best part half a million actually did this.I t`s more than what I expected.

I live in Northern Ireland and I (along with several of my extended family) declared ourselves 'Jedi'.

IIRC the Gov u-turned (in a sop to the established Church, the C of E) and denied 'Jedi-ism' it's place as a formal and recognised religion in the UK (which I seem to recall was supposed to be granted to those religions - even self-declared new ones - if a certain level of support was reached - 100k nationwide?)

BTW, it had nothing to do with poking the Gov in the eye, it was a poke in the eye to the British establishment (which is not quite the same thing) and outdated notions of sectarian division - and coming from NI I know a thing or two about where that medieval madness can lead if it takes hold.

Yes, i see what you mean. that clarifies to me why I couldn`t decide whether to put this in the politics or religion forum. I knew it was more political really.
If you look in WIKI, above 10k people categorizing themselves Jedi meant it would be assigned its own code but didn`t necessitate it any legal status.l I`d like a lawyer to tell us more about this one really.

P.S- Well Done

I declared myself "jedi" in the last census.

Why, because I can and this was I think the only question that the Government could not question you on.

Not sure what to put for the next census. Maybe Klingon or Stormtrooper

Yes I did as well and for no other reason than just because I could.

As Freedom ERP said, you couldn't be questioned on it, so was really the only place you could put anything interesting or not true.

I will look forward to seeing what new ones come up in 2011

I am indeed a Jedi.

I seem to remember that it was picked up by "The Sun" news errr comic as well and that it was understood to be a wind up. And not allowed as people do not actually practice anything in relation to being a jedi.

which sounds like most christians I know!
