Does anyone know the name of this book?

I have a friend who's dad is rather into aliens and cryptozoology. She told me once about an intriguing book that is supposed to be based on true events, telling the story of a family living in England (I believe it was set in Cornwall) who we're periodically visited by aliens. It's been a long time since I've really seen this friend, but lately I've had an urge to read this book and I can't get in contact with her to find out the title. Does anyone know what book she might be on about?

No idea about the book.

Sorry to be akward, but I really would like to know this name of this book so im bumping my thread. I've been looking on google, but without some hint of the author or title I'm ending up on a dead end. Please think hard for me please!

I've just found the story about Anne JEfferies, I could have been mistaken about my friend saying it wa definatly aliens... but I'm not sure.

I'm guessing it may have been "The Uninvited". (No, not the Nick Pope book of the same name).

I'm struggling to find anything about it at the moment but I read it many years ago when it was published, (in the late 70s I think), and it scared the willies out of me.

The family concerned lived on a farm in Wales and were supposedly the subject of abductions, visits from MIB and their cattle were abducted and mutilated as I recall.

I've not seen it for ages, it's probably somewhere in a box in the the loft but if I can track down the details I'll let you know.

I'd be happy to help and have quite a few books in mind, but to narrow it down I'd need some more details of what you can remember.

Can you remember anything about the author (e.g. a UFO researcher, or a member of the relevant family) or relevant time period (1960s? 1970s)?

Particularly significant would be any information you can recall about the location? Are you sure it was Cornwall? Could it have been Wales or further north in England?

Was the relevant book that concentrated solely on the contact of the relevant family, or was that merely one story in the book? What was the nature of the contact? Was it repeated visits over several months/years, or a one off abduction type scenario (the comments in your first post above suggest the former)? Who was involved (farmers or a suburban family; mother, father and several children or ...)?

Basically, anything you can remember which you didn't mention in your first post would help give you the relevant title. I doubt a long list of possible candidate books would help you very much...

It might be "abducted" the story of Jason Andrews and his family, although it was in the Kent countryside and not Cornwall.

To save you digging out your copy to find the relevant details, "The Uninvited" was written by Clive Harold in 1979 and related to various UFO sightings near Ripperston Farm in Wales, involving the Coombs/Coombes family [the spelling of their surname various from source to source].

However, as you mention in your post, that book related to events surrounding a family in Wales. FudgeStix has asked for details of a book regarding a family which he _thinks_ was in Cornwall (hence my question above asking if he was sure of the location and whether it could in fact have been in Wales).

Thanks Isaac, there are so many similar titles to books and films etc. that it's a pain to track down.

I really ought to re-read it anyway. Yes i know it wasn't the "right" location but it seemed to fit otherwise.

Just to add - if it was the book i suggested then it's worth a read. I know there's plenty of criticism of the case, particularly UFO mags involvement. But, i lived in the next village (about 2 miles away) so i can say that there is definatly something odd going on (or there was).

More to do with it's location imo, or close proximaty to a military base. There was certainly alot of bullying and intimidation of certain people by people who claim to be from the MOD.

Another possibility is The Janos People A Close Encounter of the Fourth Kind by Frank Johnson. Published by Neville Spearman 1980.

Late one night, while travelling in their car on a lonely road in Oxfordshire (sorry), a family of three adults and two small children were intercepted by a large spaceship, and were taken on board for nearly an hour, during which the flying saucer made a short trip...

The spaceship's capain was called Anouxia, the pilot's name was Uxiaulia and his wife was called Vurna- (why do space people always have names that sound like sexually transmitted diseases?!)

Anyway, as IsaacKoi has already said, more information will be needed in order to identify the book if it hasn't been named already...

This is what immediately came to my mind, but after a search I realized this was not in the UK, and probably isn't what you're referring to...

I dunno if a book was created on this incident per-say, but I did read this incident in a UFO book when I was a kid, and it really freaked me out back then...

Thanks for everyones help so far, I'll go have a look at all the books you've suggested. In responce to some of your questions...

- It could have been somewhere other than Cornwall, but im quite sure it was southern England. I think Cornwall came to mind because there's a lot of stories around that area.

- I'm afraid I don't know how old the book is, I've never seen the book itself so I couldn't even estimate a guess.

- I'm sure it was focused on a series of events that happened to one family rather than being a catalogue of stories from all over england. I think I remember saying it was in diary or memoir form, but I don't know if it was written autobiographically by one of the supposed family, or in biographical sense.

- I think it was about a family (mother, father, children)

- I believe my friend said it took place over many years, possibly with the aliens asking the family to help them with something.

- I remember a basement/cellar being involved, but that could be a red herring so I wouldn't look into that clue too far.

I do remember her saying she was too scared to read it because her dad was scared by it, and he's a hard nut to crack in that sense.

Hope that's jogged someones memory

Fudgestix, if you can remember any more details then give us a shout, i'm very familiar with the case i mentioned and might be able to tie some more details in for you

For reference - the case occured in a little village just outside Borough Green in the Kent countryside. The main person experience this phenomena was the son Jason Andrews, but over a period of time all the family reported anomalies, as did others in the area including an elderly couple who were harassed for a number of years before selling up and moving away.
