I was thinking I might make a road trip to Area 51 with a few buddies this summer, but now I'm wondering if it's all washed out. Any other fun/potentially dangerous high activity "secret" sites to visit in the United States?

Area 51 is still as active as ever. Check it out.

Make the "Grand Tour" and see Area 51 (site of more thgan half a century of blackworld flight-test), the Central Nevada Test Area (site of a 1MT underground nuclear test), Tonopah Test Range (former home of RED EAGLES and F-117A, current home of 30th Recon Sq and ???), Nevada Test Site (site of more than 900 nuclear tests), and Creech AFB (Indian Springs UAV facility). Plan carefully. Gas stations are few and far between.

I highly recommend a trip to A51 for anyone interested in the area.

The desert is beautiful, you can watch aircraft zooming around, sit on
a hill at night and look at the stars...wonderful vacation. Best I ever had.

I stayed 3 nights at the Little Ale'Inn. The accomodations were a bit
primitive, but affordable. Plus, I didn't have to make the 120 mile trip
from Vegas everyday. Oh, the food was wonderful !!

If you can find a guide, the trip up Tikaboo is breath-taking. Actually
looking at the base through a telescope was like nothing I've ever
experienced.

Make a big trip of it. Visit all the 'secret FEMA sites' and 'underground bases' around the country. Then you will see it is all nothing.

Conspiracy theories are the biggest disinformation program of them all.

Area 51 isn't a conspiracy theory; it's a FACT. However, what goes on inside there is full of theories....

Hi I also am planning a trip out that way in July. I was wondering the same thing too. I was thinking of going out by groom lake have you considered that at all and where to go to get the best chance of watching a test flight? Thanks for opening this discussion.

Go visit Area 51. DEFINETLY. I plan on taking a trip there once I get my license, it'd be an experience. The area there is full of people obsessed with aliens and such, it'd be a good time to meet some interesting people
Have a awesome trip

you need to get a firm grip on the definition of 'conspiracy' and 'theory', do some research on their use in tandem with each other, and then think before you post.

I wouldn't mind going to visit, just for the historical aspects and all the tourist traps that I am sure have popped up in the area. Areas like that, regardless of what goes on, are still fascinating simply for how much they influenced popular culture, and I think it would be great to say "Yeah, I've been there".

You can actually bus tour the Nevada Test site.It will only take you to certain areas but it will give you a feeling of the area.

Before you go there you should stop in Las Vegas and check this place out.

www.atomictestingmuseum.org...

This link tells you about the tours which leave from the Atomic testing museum.

NTS tours

If you are going to visit Wright-Patterson AFB they have the Air Force museum.

It to is a must see.

www.nationalmuseum.af.mil...

As for wandering up to Rachel and standing out in the desert be prepared for the heat and take more water than needed.

It is brutally hot and no shade.

The locals are very friendly they like all the star gazers looking for UFO's and taking their money.

And also while you are there looking up in to the sky, look down once in a while.

There are rattlesnakes every where.

visit dugway proving grounds or skinwalker ranch (www.skinwalkerranch.org) why go where every other tourist goes? do you think you'll see somthing special? maybe 15 years ago you may have but Dugway will be much more productive, also go to the north eastern side of the proving grounds or anywhere near Hills AFB.

You could come out to Georgia, Marietta/Smyrna specifically, hit a couple of the many strip clubs out on Cobb Parkway just outside of I285, knock back a few beers, then head over to Dobbins Air Force Base, where the Lockheed Martin "Funky Town" design/assembly plant is, climb the fence, and head toward the area underground hangars are where they store the F22 prototypes, and maybe get within three-quarters of a mile of the staging area before some of those wackenhut security people stomp your head into a totally different shape.

I'd rather just sit in the strip club, myself.
