But why?

I'll admit that for the most part I don't fully believe in all these 9/11 conspiracy theories, mostly because I'd just rather they not be true.

I see some validity in some of the theories and it is my personal belief that the truth lies somewhere in between...The real story isn't exactly the official story but it isn't the wild conspiracies that some people would like to believe.

My question, however, is why exactly would the government be behind this? I see all kinds of well thought out arguments as to why it LOOKS like the government was behind it, but I have yet to see a convincing one that explains the motivations behind staging something like this. I hear that it was an excuse to go to war...But was an excuse ever really needed? Did 9/11 suddenly turn people into blind sheep that follow their leader? I'm not American so I don't think I can really answer that question.

Also, if it was all a conspiracy staged by the government, why do you feel it was clearly so poorly executed? I mean, if common folk like you or I can find so many holes in the story and, in some people's eyes, irrefutable proof that it was staged, don't you think that a conspiracy of this magnitude would have been planned better? Don't you think that the government would have realized that people actually know the melting point of steel, or whatever the various theories propose?

The way I see it, the harder something is to explain, the more the likelyhood of it being legitimate. Things that are planned or staged tend to be much easier to explain, rather than leaving a bunch of holes in the story that will cast a shadow of doubt. In other words, if it was truly a government conspiracy or whatever, I'd like to think that they are smart enough to pull it off without a bunch of average joes on the internet finding a bunch of mistakes in how they did it.

Then again, I'm not really an expert on these theories because I'd rather just stay away from them. I haven't ever watched any of the documentaries on this stuff either, so I guess I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to it.
