Fallujah Comes To California At US Army's 'Model Iraq'

newsinfo.inquirer.net

FORT IRWIN, California--The dust clouds from the convoy of United States Army tanks disperse and on the horizon an Iraqi town complete with mosques, municipal buildings and people emerges.

The road signs are in Arabic and the ambulances that trundle through the city's streets carry the insignia of the Red Crescent.

It could be Fallujah, Basra or Tikrit. In fact, it is California.

This is interesting. The effort to build such a particular realistic training ground for Iraq may show that the US is infact preparing for a long term stay.

Reminds me of "Tigerland", where they set up a realistic environment as close as possible to Vietnam's battlefield conditions & environment.

Yeah... OR it could mean that the Army has realized and found out that by providing troops with a realistic training environment before they deploy to Iraq they increase the chance of not only survival but success in objectives as well. They (the military) even hire Iraqi born nationals to come and help the troops train in an authentic crowd environment.
