A co-worker just sent me the link to this thread and I felt compelled to just clear this up for you.
I am a digital media/web designer with the Space Foundation and the artwork used for the National Space Symposium 07 was merely an artist conception,
there is no significance to the glass domes or anything you see in the image.
When we were searching for artwork for the event, we picked that image because it seems almost believeable. We wanted something that looked
futuristic but not too far "out there"....something that worked with the tag line for the event - "Toward a New Reality"
The artwork is a 3d image produced by artist Joe Vinton @ futurerealms.com

On a side note, one of the exhibits this year was a prototype of a proposed habitat for future trips to the moon and it had metal doors, and the walls
were made of a nylon/kevlar fabric which was inflated to approx 8 psi to make it rigid. This structure would then be sheilded by a metal or composite
dome which would help protect the habitiat from meteors and debrit.
