People who believe they have lived past lives as, say, Indian princesses or battlefield commanders are more likely to make certain types of memory errors, according to a new study.

The propensity to make these mistakes could, in part, explain why people cling to implausible reincarnation claims in the first place.

What I always find funny is that most people that claim to remember their past lives think that they were a famous person or were somehow connected to a famous person--either being a friend or relative. There weren't that many famous people throughout history, and those who personally knew them were few and far between.

well if you believe in reincarnation, then you are probably spending most of your brain power and time trying to figure out who you were in the past life and not really focusing on the pesent, so of course that is going to affect your memory

From what I can tell this study left out some important evidence regarding reincarnation and children.

The University of Virginia has on going research into reincarnation and numerous examples of children ages 2-3 who recall their past lives with specific names and places that can be verified.

Dr. Brian Weiss a Yale medical school graduate has also done extensive research on reincarnation.

At best this paper can explain away some cases of reincarnation as faulty memory or an overactive imagination but it does not account for the literally thousands of cases of children from all over the world and their specific details of past lives.

People can believe in reincarnation without having memories of past lives, this does not mean that they have "memory errors" though.
