Schools are dropping the Holocaust from history lessons to avoid offending Muslim pupils. This is insane. There is also resistance to tackling the 11th century Crusades - where Christians fought Muslim armies for control of Jerusalem, because mosques are teaching something different,in other words they are changing history for their benefit. Unbelievable absolutely unbelievable. This is crazy, lets change history because we don't want to "offend" the muslims. The muslims are not "offended" it's because they will express their anti-Semitic and anti-Israel reactions in class. What is going on in Britain??? Are they turning into sheep??? The religion of peace my a.. More like the religion of do as I say,or lose your head.

Hah.. Well, the crusades seems to be a nasty word that both Muslims and Christians love to try and deny. Own it!! Own it!! It happened. It has been recorded.

As far as Islam being a religion of "peace," compared to what? Islam has never been able to rightfully make that claim. Although I am a Christian, I will say without any regret that if one really wants to look at a religion of peace, it would have to be Buddhism.

I say give both sides of the story, even the "revisionist" one. Let people decide what really happened during that time.

The problem with revising history in schools is that, soon enough, people won't remember the truth. I agree though, that it's a travesty to drop the Holocaust from history lessons out of fear of offending Muslims. What of offending the Jews? Or even more direct, the families of the men and women who died during WW2?

This is nothing less than a lie of omission.

What of offending Christian students (anyone else too) who do not agree with evolution? I mean, if it's strictly about offending sensibilities, shouldn't they be on the same page as dropping the holocaust from history?

One could argue that they are both facts which disagree with a tenet of religion, so why is not offending Muslims more important than offending someone else?

Edit for spelling :-)

Wiccans. Seriously .. they have a very peaceful core to their religion. Of all the religions I've looked at, Wiccans seem to have the true peaceful core AND most actually practice it without perverting it.

IMHO

Yep FlyersFan is right. That said, I find this news appalling. Opinions don't dictate facts.

Going to Catholic school as a kid I was never really told the truth about the crusades, the inquisition, the childrens crusades and as far as the Holocaust goes, I never knew until my adult life that there were other people that died during the holocaust. I was only told about the Jewish people that died. Nothing about gays, gypsies, russians or anyone else. Wonder why.

i went to a school that cut the unit on the crusades short to no offend christians, this type of thing isn't new.

In my opinion, children should be taught the truth, period. No Christian angle, no Moslem angle, no Jewish angle, etc. Tell them the plain truth, no matter how painful it may be, no matter how bad it makes a particular group look.

We've gotten away from honesty in this world and we're certainly not better for it. We need to worry less about offending people and more about integrity.

Suppose something catastrophic happens to the earth; something that is bad enough to get rid of us, but leave evidence of our existence here. Then suppose there is life elsewhere and they stumble on our planet and find what we've left behind.

Do we really want chaos and prevarication to be our legacy?

Well it is coming to a point where people will have to make a decision. The primary decision will be on which set of law to follow, the law of the country you are living in or shira law of the muslims? I am not surprised about this, as here in the US, up in Illinois or Michigan, there are those who are refusing to do their jobs on the basis it offends them, religiously. The sad part is that many just sit back and let it happen. Myself, I think that we need to teach history as it has happened, pull no punches, and present both sides of the story instead of one side. We need to look at those who are refusing to do something because it is against their religion and say, hey thank you for your time, please find other employment. If not, then it may be a good time to learn farsee and get a copy of the Quaran out and start studying.

The article didn’t say that the laws or rules of teaching were being changed, just that some teachers were having some difficulties dealing with the subject matter, there is a huge diference. And if anything you should be out buying the bible, many people in the US want to ban the teaching of evolution.

How right you are, only if you mean Christians.

Well on this we are in full agreement.

They are hired to do a job. If they don't do the job they should be fired. Period. Those who are too chicken**** to fire them should be fired as well.

I believe that Muslims should all go to one place where they can teach/don't teach whatever they want and touch/don't touch whatever they want. Don't bother us with their crap.

This IS absolutely insane. What has this stupid country come to when we have eliminated the holocaust from our lessons to avoid offending muslims? Man, if I had access to the idiot that decided to impose this one, boy he would have multiple exits for excrement...if you know what Im sayin.

First we have schools that have banned booing at sporting event s to avoid hurthing the other teams feelings, then some genius that decides to ban screaming on a thrill ride to avoid disturbing neighbors, and now this!!???

The day to day happenings in the US are becoming increasingly more absurd, and I feel that it will reach a point soon, that every little thing we do is going to be scrutinized to ensure that we are not offending anyone.

If you dont want your child to be offended about the Holocaust, then get out of my country!

^ Harsh, but true!!

I learned all about the Holocaust last year and not a single person was offended... In fact, we spent an entire 6 weeks on it and no one had complaints. Mind you, our religions are very mixed meaning we have Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, Christians, and Muslims in all our classes. Still, no complaints.

History is history! You can't compromise it to make it more "politically correct". What happened happened and it deserves to be learned, not forgotten.

And can someone explain to me why the Holocaust would offend Muslims? If someone were to get offended, don't you think it would be the Jews?

Please and thank you.

If it happend teach it. Don't chose sides, just teach the history of the event and move on. Our children are not as dumb as we think they are. Let them form their own opinions. If you don't teach your kids your views on other people, sterotypes, racism, bigotry, it becomes pretty hard to learn these things in today's very diverse world. Let them find out that world is an ugly place, but it is not racism and such that make it ugly. Its people who use racism and bigotry to perverse the world we live in. They use it to justify thier actions.

Teach the truth, but don't fail to teach your own, or the failures of others to your kids. Its quite obvious we can not fix the world we live in today, don;t try to. But if you start planting the seeds and let them grow in our kids,,,,,,,maybe ....... just maybe...... the world will become a better place. As for our(the world) history, I see lots more good in it than bad.

Have you all ever thought that perhaps this sort of stories are brought up for the specific purpose of painting Muslims in a bad light? I mean, we aren't asking for any special treatment here. Even in the article linked in the OP, it was the teachers who opted to drop the subject. There was no pressure from Muslims for them to drop it -- they opted to do it out of their own unfounded fears. Part of that fear I suspect comes from these sort of stories. I mean, look at yourselves, getting all riled up over a non-story.

You've all been psy-opped.
