I have grown a vegetable garden since i was a child. I went to a local Farm and garden supply store to purchase seeds today and was surprised to find they had very little selection, and to top it off the lady behind the counter stated that she had ordered seeds several times but the seed companies had not sent her order, and she further stated that she was told "she did not say by whom" That the Government was buying up Vegetable seeds.
I went to two more stores where I have purchased seeds in the past but they also were out. On my way home I remembered a post on ATS about seeds becoming "sterile" Could this be a sign of things to come, and if so What and why is this being done.?

I couldn't find any independent confirmation of such a government policy but I wonder, could one not just use seed from existing crops?

Could this have something to do with Colony Collapse Syndrome?

Colony Collapse Syndrome has to do with large populations of honeybees disappearing.

Why was this posted in this forum?

I think it's something to keep a watch on. The FDA does not want us to be healthy, they want us to be sick.

The more successful the food lobby is at suppressing information that would prevent chronic disease in the American people, the more the pharmaceutical industry benefits financially. Why is that? Because as more Americans eat added sugars, processed foods, hydrogenated oils and other foods and food ingredients that promote chronic disease, the more prescription drugs they will need to treat those diseases. Thus, in a rather bizarre and sickening way, the pharmaceutical industry has the food industry to thank for creating more customers!

The FDA is a Major Part of the Diabetes Problem
The FDA has contributed to the epidemic of diabetes in a variety of ways. They have approved massive adulteration of the food supply with thousands of toxic chemicals (such as coal-tar derived food coloring), addictive sweeteners (like aspartame and Splenda), and neurotoxic chemicals like MSG that damage appetite regulation. On top of that, the FDA and EPA allow a variety of hormone-disruptive chemicals in the food supply. They also allow the thyroid glands and brains of our citizens to be poisoned with perchlorate and fluoride. The cumulative effect of these multiple metabolic insults is creating a society that is addicted to junk food and heading for rampant obesity and diabetes.

I think it is about population control. The seeds you buy now are called TERMINATOR SEEDS they only last one season. They also have SELF POLLINATING SEEDS . I think these seeds exist because the bad man does not want us to grow our own food. These seeds will most likely be regulated, expensive and hard to come by. When you buy seeds these days, you might want to find out what is in them. Watch the movie THE FUTURE OF FOOD and it may help open your eyes to many scary things.

I did some research on this and came up with the following information:

(NewsTarget) Genetically modified foods have infiltrated our crops and may turn the world of agriculture upside-down, argues the 2004 film "The Future of Food."

The documentary, created by Deborah Koons Garcia -- the last wife of the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia -- investigates the impact on agriculture as the corporations that are creating genetically modified foods have strengthened over the past decade. One company, Monsanto, the creator of Roundup herbicide, is a focal point.

"Basically, the U.S. pesticide industry bought the seed industry," explains Charles M. Benbrook, former director of the board of agriculture at the National Academy of Science.

By owning the rights to seeds, using patents, companies have the ability to create a variety of foods -- but also legally disallow anyone else to grow them.

In another article:

Corporations like Monsanto are playing God with the food supply. Did you ever wonder what happens when all the genetically modified, pesticide-compatible, gene-terminated, laboratory-concocted Frankenfoods end up genetically contaminating the natural crops we depend on for a sustainable food future?

You may find this surprising to learn, but U.S. corporations have actually designed, patented and aggressively promoted "gene terminator" plant technology that causes second-generation plants to self-destruct. By doing this, the corporation can control intellectual property (seed patents) and demand royalties on seeds from poor farmers in third world countries. It eliminates the whole practice of "saving seeds" and propagating food from one plant generation to the next -- a practice that humankind has depended on for survival since the beginning of human history.

In doing so, this gene terminator technology is a crime against both nature and humanity. To deny farmers the ability to propagate seeds from one generation to the next is to enslave humanity in a system of corporate control that violates the laws of nature and God. Care to take a guess which U.S. corporation is engaged in this activity? If you guessed Monsanto, you're right.

If you buy seedless watermelons, or seedless grapes, or GM soy products, you're already supporting the corporations that are altering the food supply. Seedless grapes are not natural, and they remove the very part of the grape that contains powerful cardiovascular medicine. Have you ever heard of the nutritional supplement called grape seed extract? Guess where it comes from? ... Grape seeds, of course. It's some of the best cardiovascular medicine known to modern science, far more potent than any prescription drug, yet with zero negative side effects. Yet food companies have removed it from the food supply and promoted "seedless grapes" as a benefit to consumers!

Must-see documentary: The Corporation. Watch this if you really want to know the truth about how corporations threaten the very future of humankind.

What can you do about all this? Grow heirloom plants, buy organic, non-GM foods and refuse to do business with corporations that use GM foods.

This one is really frightening:

Genetically engineered crops contain latent pesticides that are activated when eaten by consumers

Look into heirloom seeds, they arent the crappy seeds you buy in the store. heirloomseeds.com is a good website to get them from. look into the encyclopedia of country living, lots of good info on self sustained living.

Thank you very much for the info. I will check into Heirloom and see what they have to offer. I personally think chemical companies have no business owning seed companies, But that is free enterprise..

How do we know those seeds are not contaminated or won't be in the future? Chemtrails can be sprayed anywhere I would think.

You dont. As soon as you grow a crop, replant the seeds from the crop to make sure they grow. Then you will know they are good. Then harvest, dry, and preserve the seed sfrom the new crop. You know those seeds are good. Stock up on your own "home-grown" seeds.

I definately see a war on food gearing up, as well as on water and everything else we need to survive. It's all part of the total control that these megalomaniacal globalists lust for. They are trying to play god and boy is it gonna backfire on them.

Great tips on self sufficiency folks, I would also suggest looking into ways to collect and store water.

I just read the entire thread you posted above and also did some basic internet research on this... the seeds they are prohibiting farmers from saving are PATENTED genetically modified seeds. There are no restrictions on "regular" seeds.

let's hope you are right, because afaics, it's not all that difficult to get a patent on strange things:

Q: who controls Iraq nowadays?

btw, i'm not so sure, take a look at:

www.informationclearinghouse.info...

Traditionally, Iraqi farmers used “farm-saved seed” and the free innovation with and exchange of planting materials among farming communities has long been the basis of agricultural practice. According to the Food Agriculture Organisation (FAO), 97 percent of Iraqi farmers used farm-saved seeds from their own stocks from last year harvest or purchased from local market. The new law deprives Iraqi farmers of their innovation and development of important crops such barley, wheat, pulses and the famous Iraqi date. Despite extreme aridity, characterised by low rainfalls and soil salinity, Iraq had a world standard agricultural sector producing good quality food for generations.

Under the new US Order, the saving and planting of seeds will be illegal and market will only offer plant material produced by transactional agribusiness corporations. The US Order introduces a system of private monopoly rights over seeds and will force Iraqi farmers to relay on big US corporations to buy its yearly crop seeds for planting. The term of the monopoly is 20 years for crop varieties and 25 for trees and vines. During this time the protected variety de facto becomes the property of the breeder, and nobody can plant or otherwise use this variety without compensating the breeder.

if personally saved seeds were exempt, how did the misunderstanding happen in the first place?
