With all due respect, it does sound fairly ridiculous.
First, you're assuming that the dolphins (granting for the sake of discussion that they really are as intelligent as we think) have made the
intellectual leap that 'flooding = more living space for us', as well as the social leap from a 'pod' organization of a few (or a few dozen)
members to a 'dolphin nation' that includes most of the dolphins (if not all) on the planet.
Given that those things have taken place, there are still a lot of problems. I'll toss two of them out for you, just to get the discussion going.
1) How are the dolphins planning to generate all the heat they'll need to melt the ice caps? Body heat alone won't do it. In polar waters, it's
taxing enough for a body to maintain itself at a working temperature, never mind radiating enough heat to make an impact on water or ice temperature.
2) Melting the north polar ice (since the dolphins don't, as far as we know, have 'space capsules' that will let them trundle over the sout polar
ice, that's the only ice cap they have access to) could actually lower worldwide sea levels slightly, since the ice is displacing water in order to
float. Melt the ice, and the water level will actually drop. If you want proof, put some ice cubes in a glass. Fill with water. Watch water level as
the ice cubes melt.
